Whilst this would stop most, if not all of these disputes we should consider if anyone has a genuine use for the 3 fields before suggesting it's merge into 1.
This is not a poll to say if you want to get rid of the 3 fields, I'm just intrigued to see if the split data is being utilised or not. You just were faster than me. - I was to write a "feature request" on that matter... Some points to be thougt of: - For searching there should be word indexes anyway! - Otherwise we can't find the guys with articles in front of their surnames... - For sorting we should consider to get an aditional sort field, as we have it with DVD titles, which can be altered locally while a proposal comes with the online database. YES, this means to have a more independent database table for persons. - We should merge cast and crew database tables - Maybe we should get a field for other used names of the person (something like IMDB uses to link different credits to one actor). I don't think, that such a feature would work automatically, but it could be of great help when searching for cross links - take it as an online form of the "common name thread"... - And, while dreaming of a perfect person oriented data structure, I'd like to see a field for the gender of the actor/crew member Regards, AA | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

You can't sort by surnames either, when the rule of the thumb is to use the last word as surname, as suggested by our rule oriented guys, sorry. If we want to get out any profit of dividing names into fields (I think there are at least five of them: sex, title, given name(s), unused and middle names, surnames), then we have to accept that names are more related to curltural heritage than simple words, which this text exists of... So we can sort by surnames When I said "can't", I meant it doesn't work as long as there are quarrels about common names which are solved by dividing words instead of names from each other: Helena/Bonham/Carter will never show up within the Bs where she belongs to... There is a very simple way to solve those quarrels. You don't care and use only your own database, with your choices, and locking your profiles to avoid your database being polluted by the online profiles (with spelling mistakes in overviews and so on...). I've not the slightest problem with common names, using the excellent plugin which allows to manage them. | | | Images from movies |

Skip If had you read what I wrote, you should agree, as I propose to AiAustria to use his local database. So why do you whine? I do not know your age, but you behave like those senile people who always repeat the same thing without listening to what other people say. | | | Images from movies |

Yeah, I understand you LOVE spelling mistakes And you don't know the difference between typos and actual spelling errors, either. Leave off, already. | | | John
