So even if an actor/actress is listed normally say as 'Kate Bosworth', but in 1 movie is listed as Catherine Bosworth, that you can't use the credited as for that. | | | Home of the phpDVDProfiler forums |

How about because we don't want you, or anybody else, substituting your preferences for those of the producer and director. That happened already, if the information is already publically available... Also, the name Alan Smithee is well-known to be fake. |

| Posted: | | | | I've done this, most everyone knows that Walter Hill directed SUPERNOVA (don't ask why I own the film though ), so he got a "Walter Hill as credited as Alan Smithee." I threw along an interview link or two where he confirms this as documentation. - - - NOTE: Actually "Thomas Lee" - the other, new Alan Smithee... | | | Erik

Don't you think that you should have said "I"? Ken Cole added "credited as" for crew to version 3.0, so it looks like he is not part of your "we". I asked this before, without cross-linking of cast or crew data, why do you want cast/crew data in DVDProfiler? If all you care about is pure "as credited", the film credits are your pure source of data. Why spend time entering them into DVDProfiler if you don't have a use for them? pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

Neither is Encyclopedia Britannica, neither is DVD Profiler. If the article give the appropriate sources (which is often the case), I don't see why it isn't reliable enough. But let's not start a 15 page discussion on reliable sources

If it doesn't say it in the credits on the disc, then don't use it. How much more simple does it have to be? He is, just flip the disc. On the other hand, your arguments are ridiculous in the first place, how should we use the credited as feature, without a common name? |

You just nailed my argument. Ken has not released Criteria or Standards, who gets to decide what the Common Name is, upon what basis? Based on the common name in your 600 title collection, the Comon name based upon my 3000+ Collection, or someone else's, or some OTHER sort of Criteria, or maybe we just use a dartboard.

Skip Ken is working on this area, according to comments he has made. But he hasn't told us to not use the feature at this time. In contributions that I've seen, if the contributor presents a good case for the common name, the voters are agreeable. | | | ...James

To me this is different than trying to figure out which is the correct common name for someone like Ashley Edner versus Ashley Louise Edner. | | | Are you local? This is a local shop the strangers you would bring would not understand us, our customs, our local ways. |

Which is exactly why I said awhile ago that Ken should just turn off this damn common name stuff until he figures out how to make it work right. If he doesn't, we will continue to have people trying to use it who don't pay any attention to the fact that they are f*(%ing up the database in the process. | | | John

Skip I understand this argument for things like 'Benjamin Smith' vs 'Ben Smith'. But for well known pseudonyms, it doesn't fly.
