I have yet to see a legit DVD that is not chapter encoded, i.e. has the main feature encoded as one 90+ minutes chapter.

If I'd ever come across one of these, I'd return or resell it in a heartbeat, as it's simply a VHS tape put on a DVD.

Then you should stay away from David Lynch films. He doesn't like chapter stops, so they don't get put on the DVDs he is involved with (Mulholland Dr, Eraserhead)

Good thing I don't dig most of his recent work... Strange fella, I really like "Blue Velvet", "Twin Peaks", "Wild at Heart" and "Dune", but can't stand the likes of "Mulholland Drive" or "Lost Highway" and am very suspicious of the stuff he's doing nowadays

I actually put the disc in and checked it.  Here's what I found:

There is no menu selection for "Scene Access" or any variation of that name.  You get only "Set Up" and "Play" at the main menu.

What I found though, is that it does recognize the Chapter Menu selection under PowerDVD.  Using that, it jumps back to the main menu screen.  Subsequently clicking on Play takes you right back to the point at which you clicked on the Chapter Menu.  What you have in effect is a pause/resume sequence.

This movie is 2 hours and 12 minutes long, which is a lot to pack onto a single sided disc, even if it is double layer.  Interactive menus and scene selection setups chew up a lot of real estate, so I'm not really surprised at the absence of such.  Also, Eastwood may very well have done this deliberately for aesthetic reasons to preserve the flow of the story.  You're intended to watch this one all the way through from start to finish, so again that fits right in with the lack of scene access as we normally see it.

Profile wise, this one gets a No on Scene Access, and a No on Other Features.  I would put something in the Notes block, however, as a reminder to myself about this.

I agree with most everyone else.  No scene access.  Most certainly NOT an easter egg.  And I wouldn't be inclined to list it under Other Features since it's not really a "feature".  But if forced to put it somewhere, that's the place I'd choose.

What I found with my version of PowerDVD6 is:  Go To --Title One-- Chapters 1 thru 20 .. each chapter being around but not exactly 5 to 6 minutes each and chapter 20 being over 13 minutes in length..

and lets not ,, everyone... Get your collar up in a snuff when I try and 'contribute' some lively discussion here on the forum.. If I see something that hasn't been addressed before ,, I be there with Balls on......?,, or is that bells on??

You actually do get a lot of them (here in SA anyway) that are in fact little less than a VHS transfer ... normally billed as "budget" or "nice price" with a menu that says "Play Movie".  Some of them have chapter stops in the movie itself, but normally limited (2 or 3).  I made the mistake of buying some a few years back because they were cheap.  Obviously you get what you pay for ....

The problem is consistency.
The rules use the term “Scene Selection”
And default profile screens use the term “Screen Access”.

If the rules and the default profiler screens were consistent in their terminology, lot of these arguments could be reduced, although I doubt eliminated. When documenting a program, help files, a set of instructions or of rules one should check the consistency of the terminology used. That is why I suggested a glossary of terms.

I wish I could believe you, Srethims. First off hollywood is not consistent in their usage, in credits or anything else. But the users have proven over and over again that no matter how clear a Rule is they are still willing to argue it....cynical....yep. Personally i thin many times it is simply an attempt to try and bend the Online to the way they wish it to appear for their purposes and friends, reminded of the old sort wars.

I am speaking of the "Official" DVD Profiler documentation. its rules, help files and screens blessed by Ken Cole and probably his better half. Females seem to be better at these things.

When I was in Canada, working for CDC on the String Array Processor, instruction set base on Iverson's ALP, I wrote the specs for the specifications for the unit I managed. I thought I did a good job until I sent it over to the tech writers, two English women. When I got the paper back I think weighed twice as much from the red and blue ink they added, I could not argue with any of their corrections or comments.

You can't control what other people think or write, but if the "Official" documentation is consistent you only have one place to point.

I remember when computer and for that matter other product went international, we had a list of words that were unacceptable because of their derogatory meaning in an other language.
