I'm not sure I'm reading this right. If you're talking about release date, I can't agree with you. A box can't really have an aspect ratio. The discs contained in the box do, but not the box itself. But the box (or collection of movies) certainly does have a release date. No, I'm not talking about a release date. Can't you read? Release Studio is what I ment. A Box Set Profile can not have a Release Studio and a Production Studio, only a Distribution Studio. That's why I said they should be discluded. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

He did say, "I'm not sure I'm reading this right." That clearly means he didn't understand what you wrote. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Yes, I read that. I just asked a rhetorical question to express my feelings at that moment. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

Quote: I see no point in not adding aspect ratio and video format to the parent profile, if (and only if) those are the same for the complete box set. There is a reason and it's called consistency. Adding every information to the parent which is valid for the complete box set, is a concept which does not break consistency. |

Yes, but not using aspect ratio and video format for each Box Set profile does. So its better not to use them for these. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

Now you have rules which says to do one thing in situation A and a different thing in situation B. That right there isn't consistent. In addition it's more confusing for the users. That will lead to many more mistakes and unneccessary profile contributions. And for what? Having some data applied to the master profile that really doesn't make any logical sense in the first place (since a box doesn't have an aspect ratio). You're right that the rules could be re-written to allow this. But is it really worth it? | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Following any set of rules for all profiles, no matter how complex this set of rules is, is consistent. With that I do not say that the concept I have mentioned above is complex. Of course leaving the field blank for every parent profile but not for children is also consistent according a different set of rules. |

Of course leaving the field blank for every parent profile but not for children is also consistent according a different set of rules. Fair enough. I'll concede that point. But I've still not seen a good explanation for how this will add any value to the profiles/database. Nor have I seen a good argument why it's worth the risk of added contributions and possibly ping-ponging profiles over and over again. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. I would see the same reason why we have full data in the parent profiles of tv sets. Some people are only interested in the child profiles, while other people may only store the parent profiles, while yet again different people store both the parent and the children. Every profile should describe as good as possible the entity defined by its key. The parent profile should describe the whole box while the child profiles should describe only part of it. Me for example, I do profile parents only for tv sets and child profile only for movie sets. Actually I do store the parent profile for movie sets in my ordered section for contribution purposes only. But my owned section is free from the parents. |

| Posted: | | | | I still don't see the point. But I'd be curious to see what would happen if it was put to a vote. Unlike some around here, I'm not too picky about what data is in my database (for the most part). I just don't want to see it changing back and forth every few days. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |
