Movie Box Sets w Double-Sided Discs: To Split or Not To Split (child profiles)?

A movie box set with double-sided discs should have a separate child profile per side (40)
A movie box set should have ONLY one child profile per disc, irregardless of double-sides (16)
A movie box set should have the option to split their double-sided discs if majority database voters agree (4)

I was not implying that I created a separate profile for the bonus features on side B of the Superman The Movie disc, just that the two sides have different Disc ID's, so surely the two Film's could be profiled by Disc ID.

Just for clarification so I understand things as far as how the rules are now.

If you have a disc that has two movies on the same side, you would use one profile and cast/crew dividers

If you have a disc with a movie on each side, you would make it a boxset and each side would be a child profile

Now if you have two movies on each side, you would make it a box set as in example 2, but each child would be set up as example 1.

Actually, in DVD Profiler 3 you can download the "bogus side" profiles and still enjoy an accurate disc count.  Everytime you find download a profile for a "bogus side", select that profile, go to:
DVD > Personalize...
That will open the Personalize DVD box.  Next to "Collection Number" is a check box marked "None."  After you check it and save by selecting "OK," DVD Profiler 3 will remove that inventory number and not count that disc in your total.

LOL, you think not. I have been doing this for years DJ. You have much to learn my young jedi. Using the system as I use it I have 3019 DVDs but only 2350 titles. It doesn't work as you think it should.

Really?  So sometimes if you uncheck it DVD Profiler will still count it anyway?

This thread is interesting because there are so many different numbers people would like to see from their inventory, like:
DVD Titles
DVD Discs
DVD Sides
Movie Titles
and maybe, number of TV episodes
oh heck, while I'm at it how about Total Playing Time of Your Entire Collection? 

Hopefully Ken is taking notes for DVD Profiler 4

Hmmm, I am doing the same way as DJ does and feel that my "movie count" is accurate enough (there is a few things that cannot be accounted for, but I can live with that).

Can you tell us what you are doing different and why it is more accurate?

Accuracy is in the eye of the beholder, Achim

For a Movie Boxset, I do NOT assign a number to the Box but to each title.

For TV Series I do it the exact opposite, the Master gets the number the children do NOT.

I am not interested as much in how many discs I have, as much as I am titles, someone else might have a complteely different approach, but as I said just a rough guess. Using both sides would balloon my Total DVD count to about 4500.

Hmmm, maybe I misunderstood djskyler then. because in fact I am doing exactly what you are doing (not assigning numbers to bonus discs of Box Sets though, but maybe you just didn't mention that).

But I thought that was was he was basically saying, that one can set the collection number to None, to adjust the accuracy of what is being counted in accordance to ones personal preference...

Yes ya_shin, that is what I meant.  By removing collection numbers your can adjust down, which I thought would work to eliminate Skip's extra sides.

For myself there is less room for accuracy because I prefer a movie count, which would require a count upwards for some movie box sets. 

For Airport Terminal Pack: The Franchise Collection there is one box parent plus four sides (1 + 4 = 5).  I remove the collection number for the parent and now it is accurate for number of actual movies (4). 

But for The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection there is one parent plus three sides (1 + 3 = 4).  In that set there are 5 movies, so even though that parent keeps its collection number, I am still 1 short for actual number of movies.

I don't even want to get into the Mill Valley Entertainment sets  (50 Movie Packs)

So in the poll voting so far it appears 72% favor always splitting double-sided disc profiles for movie box sets.
21% are against ever splitting discs.
7% are okay with both methods available in the database.

As I attempt to enter more "B-side" disc profiles into my inventory, it seems like the 7% currently win out, as there is quite a mix of the two approaches in the database.

The profiles I've found with split double discs include:

same method here, every movie gets a one number and every season of a series, boxsets, bonus discs, non-movie dvds and series child profiles don't
