| Posted: | | | | No problem here Just goes to show you that there are cultural differences that should be taken into consideration when dealing with names. Something some of my fellow Americans should keep in mind at times |

After his father passed (T/G/L Sr.) nothing changed. He is still Jr and my brother is still III.
I thought once a Jr. always a Jr., could be wrong though No, you're right. Your father is still junior to his father. | | | John

| Posted: | | | | Of course, Lon Chaney Jr. never went by that name while his father was alive. He went by Creighton Chaney (his real name), and was credited as such in early sound pictures. The marketing geniuses at Universal had him change the name to Lon Jr., which he found distasteful, but he did it since he wanted to work. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | I evaluated a few hundred common names in my database last night. There really is no current consistency either way. In fact, you'll find some actors with more commas and some have most names without. And then there are differences of periods after the Jr. or not. It's really quite amazing when you start looking at it. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | Of course it also, depends if those profiles actually used the name as credited on the screen credits or used IMDB which never uses a comma. Screen credits seem to go either way however from what I have seen most American films credit actors with the comma. | | | Are you local? | Posted: | | | | It's been several months since we looked at this. Now that there's a ramp up in common names, it might be worth looking at this to see if any new issues have come up that might affect how we deal with these. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | I agree with the results of this poll as far as it goes. We should also agree on whether or not to include the period after the suffix as a standard as well. | | | Hal |

My dad is a jr., but has never used it since his dad died when he was 9. I would've been the third John, with the III, had he done so. | | | John

Skip But II is generally used for someone other than the son of a Sr. - e.g. my eldest uncle was a II because he was named for his grandfather, who would have been a Sr. if he'd named HIS son after himself. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges?
