It really doesn't make any sense NOT to use Option 2. You have a LOT less opportunity for "But this is different!" cases, and makes it simple and easy without any argument for every episode.

If you think it's too much work, then don't do it - leave it to those who are willing to do the work.

Simple.

That isn't the point, and you know it.  Why is everybody all of a sudden so willing to go the easy route with all the duplication it entails, when initially everybody thought (and stills thinks for all I know) #1 looked better.  It is certainly easier to use from a lookup standpoint, in my opinion.

I disagree... especially with you wanting to put recurring cast that is not credited in every episode in with the main cast... that way seriously hinders the lookup for those actors.... you have no idea which episodes to look for them in!

Then you don't understand what 'recurring cast' is.  Recurring means 'over and over' as in they appear in episodes numerous times.  By the way, MAIN cast members (to use your def) can also not be in every episode and still be listed as cast.  Same thing from the other direction.  Main cast and recurring cast are the same if they are credited at the front of the show.

but you said... and I quote...
Quote:
Main Cast:  Those cast members who are the primary characters and are usually listed at the beginning of the show in some way, which may also include recurring guest stars.

If they are just recurring guest stars... then they are not credited in every episode... but from what I read here... you want to put them in with the main cast section even if they aren't credited in every episode.

You still need to go by the credits... if they are not credited for every episode they should only be credited for the episodes they are in!

Remember "Melrose Place"?  Heather Lockleer was a regular cast member for two seasons at least, but was always credited as 'Guest Starring Heather Lockleer..."  Now, some people would say she isn't main cast because of that 'guest' thingy.  I'd say they're full of it.

Tell you what.  Forget 'recurring cast.'  Put anybody who is credited for whatever reason at the front in the main cast section, and everybody else in the episode sections.

But then you open up another can of worms, because some shows change the opening cast on an episode-by-episode basis.

It makes no sense not to use Option #2. I have yet to see a single logical argument against using Option #2.

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.

No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

no good either.... as I said... with charmed... there is 4 different opening credits that are used for just one season... showing whichever opening credit they need for that week's stars... so even though they are in the "main cast section" they aren't credited that way for every episode... if one show does it... I can almost guarantee that other shows do as well.

And what about the several current shows that don't have a "Main Cast Section"? Where all cast is shown in the regular credits?

Except that all the extra entries create a cast list that is already nearly impossible to work with when looking for something because its so huge.

Plus, it creates problems in another area:  when you double click on an actor, it throws up their picture and a list of all the profiles they are in in your collection.  I can just see the list for say, Sarah Michelle Gellar.  7 seasons worth of episodes (she was in nearly every one) clogging things up.  Pick any show with several seasons, and its the same deal.

This will not change whether option 1 or 2 is used. If you click on SMG, you get a list of each profile she is credited in, not the total number of credits she receives across all profiles. Whether she is listed once per profile, as in option 1, or four times as in option 2, you'll still get the same result when you double-click on her name.

That's something that can be fixed with a simple programming tweak by Ken, though, regardless of which option is used.

It's a matter of degree, Nadja.  Once for each disc of episodes, total maybe 30 vice once for each episode, total approaching 150 across all 7 seasons.  Which one would you rather wade through?

It seems like you're grasping at straws here for a reason to hold on to Option #1.

Would you rather have that one inconvenience with Option 2 - which WILL be fixed in a later version, whether Ken decides to add episode-level cast or simply tweak the episode dividers to condense the info when clicking an actor's name - or the entire load of trouble with comes with Option 1?

John...

Have you even use the feature before you argue a point?

I have done 5 season of MASH so far, with 3 disc each season.

Alan Alda is listed ONE time per disc.

Not one time per epiosde per disc.

TRY SOMETHING, THEN ARGUE A POINT, otherwise you look like an idiot.

I really haven't got a clue what you're trying to say there. Long story short, as I've said at least twice in this thread, I would prefer option 2, as the only drawback is the mass of data. In NO profile are you going to have to "wade" though 150 episodes of data, and as I just said, each profile only shows up once when you double-click on the name. People who find 22-24 episodes too much to "wade" through can download child profiles and "wade" through 2-4 instead. Robert, he is your father's brother.

There is no fix necessary. Nothing is broken. John is just running his mouth before he tries it out.

I do have to say that this wasn't what I intended when arguing in favor of Option 2 - I would be crediting per episode, not per disc.

Ross....

Dsc 1 Season 1

Episode 1

Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierse

Episode 2

Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierse

Episode 3

Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierse

Episode 4

Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierse

Episode 5

Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierse

And on and on and on and on....

He shows up ONE TIME when you click his name for MASH Season 1 Disc 1 (it does not show all the episodes he is credited in which is John's argument)

Add the 4400 season discs to your list, look for my contributions. They are split per disc by episode with dividers. You'll see people credited every ep (#2 arguemnt) and thye will only show one time per disc (opposite john's aregument)

Erik is right..
I have done several sets and looked at this myself... no matter how many times someone is credited one a disc when you click their name to see everything they are only credited ONCE per disc.

If you have an listed 22 times in the parent profile... that actor is only listed once for that profile when you click their name.
