| Posted: | | | | On that I agree, Vittra. I have outlined systems that would function better, unless at this opoint they are to difficult to implement and there are ways i have described that could make the existing function far better than it does. I want to see it fixed, not for myself but for you and others that really DO want it. That is all I gave ever basically said, and there is no room for the cultural question, sorry guys, unless Ken makes a statement to allow for its use within the CLT system, and thus far his comments regarding this have been very specific much to my own chagrin. And if he goes to a system such as the one I have described, those who are ignoring the Rules and inserting whatever data they want are not helping the rest of us who simply want to develop a system that functions. Ken has specifically stated that we are afterthe most commonly credited name and not necessarily a "correct" name, in quotes because none of us can KNOW fora certainty what a given "correct" name is, all we can do speculate based on some variables which may or may not be 100% correct. But I would like to see it for those that want it. I think the system of simple associations works best because that is completely local decision, which means every user can do as he/she pleases...unless Ken has some plan to implement actor searching in the Online; which he may well have. The big thing for simple association is simply being able to share those documented associations with each other. It's great if I can create and association and NameA=NameB=NameÇ, but it does anyone else anygood if i cannot provide the documentation that supports the association and share it with you(generic).
The existing system is a mess, admittedly, and unless some very serious changes are made it will not get any better. That means users have to stop making assumptions that NameA=NameB, most of the people in Cast and Crew are unknown to us, they are just a name, and to conclude that two people are the same based ONLY a variant tool and no further documentation is a recipe for further disaster, then, of course post the Actual results of the CLT results, not just I checked the CLTY and I ain't telling you, is just well I don't want to say it.
I really do believe this can be fixed, but it will either take a cooperative effort by all of us, or a completely new system.
PLEASE take note I am not saying that culture is not important or an issue. Ken has made it very clear what he wants and I would do things a little differently in the existing system to allow for it, but all I can do is talk about what i would do, and what Ken has decided he wants to do. I apologize but no one will ever persuade me on the concept of data is valid if it does not appear On Screen, that just doesn't fly. If it is there fine, if it is not then don't add imagined data on whatever basis. There are 500,000 users probably, based on ken's last comments in that regard, more than just the vocal few on either side.
