Hello everyone,

I think the idea in general isn't a bad one, but I think it should not be done because in my opinion we should keep focus on the main online database. It will be FAR to complicated for the average user to deal with two different databases. More important is to get as many new DVDs and Blu-rays into the main database as possible. A side database will not do good for the online database in my opinion. Why not just submit the "PERFECT PROFILE" to the online database ?

Also there will never ever be a consens in here without KEN ruling on stuff. The hatred and disagreements between some factions within this forum will not be settled anymore. It is going on for far too long.

I know some projects that we are doing here are quite successfull, like the Headshot DB and the Screenshot DB.
Those are liked and wanted by alot of people because they add something to DVD Profiler that wasn't available here before.

I like to read all the posts in a timely manner, but when i get to yours I have to reread them a couple of times to figure out the words that you are trying to use. Messes up the flow.

Yves got the rule change, but not the way he wanted. Ken ruled.so the topic should be closed for Yves. He keeps his data where it belongs locally

I am not sure that this is germane to the discussion at hand.  I simply posted, in the spirit of this thread, what I believe, based on the discussions that keep coming up, are the main problems some people have with the program and what the solutions to those problems would be.  No more, no less.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I think you missed something in the translation. But the "perfect profile" will be in the online db, the idea is to be able to present a place where people can submit their profiles and have others help them get it to the "Perfect profile" status.
And there's a secondary status as well, alternate fields for some things (those things being what people want for that profile), the data of which can be used in your local database but never in the online database.

While you have the right to express your opinion, it seems awfully strange that you would do so in the manner you chose. It must be apparent to you that a great amount of restraint is being observed by most participants. Coming in at the last minute, announcing that you disagree with our project, and then provoking controversy causes me to question your purpose. I took the bait, but I hope nobody else does, and we all stay calm.

I think my post came up wrong, I really think making the "perfect profile" is a good idea, but I am not so sure if this all is too much for the average user. But I just read what PARSEC said, I think I really missed something in the translation here, if there is a "place" where the perfect profile is build and then later submitted to the online database, then I support this approach, sorry again for misunderstanding.

@mediadogg:
As for being overwhelmed (that post is only about a day's old but already two pages back): do not get all content issues get to you; these are the trees in the forest.

My suggestion would be to look again at your OP and see which refinements could be made on the project management side. For instance, sharpening the borders between tasks rather than going in-depth with tasks. Refining/redefining products/results for tasks. Defining timelines: probably will not be adhered too in detail, but it produces focus where otherwise discussions will meander along for ages.

Who have we actually on board is another thing.
For instance, many are jumping into content issues, but I've seen few posts of people actually volunteering, however small, for the proposed project. Seems a bit contradictory though, going at length on content and not volunteering...

As discussions go, here and previous threads on thoughts like the one at hand, discussions will go on contentwise. So, from my perspective, don't get lost in the forest of individual ideas that need actual debating in the 'tasks'; all that already happens here is encouraging as far as interest is concerned but a bit premature nonetheless. And yes, on this I am as guilty as the rest
Eric

If it is important, say it. Otherwise, let silence speak.

@eommen, Thanks, so far I am making good progress. I spent also a lot of time preparing for what they are saying will be a rare storm on the US east coast. Depending on how severe it is, I will either finish on schedule or be a bit delayed, but I feel better about it know. Thanks for the advice and encouragement. Oh, why am I awake at 6 am? Went to bed early. Woke up to pee.    Now for another nap!

Darn. Overslept. Weather is bright and sunny. No rain, no wind. Go figure.
