Here's a look at a new blu-ray main board.

7.1 analog out
Dolby TrueHD 7.1 decoding or bitstream over HDMI
DTS-HD MA 7.1 decoding or bitstream over HDMI
1080p24 and 1080p60 output supported

This particular design supports SD PiP and can support Profile 2.

Heehee, everyone [else] is now Truman, please walk out the door (blocking A_S) or remain here with Christof (A_S) in his warped and "perfect" reality.

So...if we all block the ASC he will literally be posting into a vacuum. I wonder if that will discourage him from his usual spamming?

Don't care because I won't have to see it anymore.

I only hope everyone blocks him (I'm looking at you Unicus ) so we won't be stuck seeing the other side of the argument either.

What?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Target shelves in favor of Blu-ray

I've noticed this at my local Target.  It used to be 3 columns blue, 3 columns red.  Now it's 4 blue and 2 red.  It's been that way for several weeks now.

I don't mind too much since their prices sucked and their selection was worse.  Still, I've picked up one or two impulse purchases there.

Nope, you answered it just fine.  Makes me glad I haven't taken the plunge yet.  I would hate to have to make that choice...live without the features or buy a new player.

Of course, if you bought a PS3, all this would be moot

Yes, but Sony has not confirmed nor denied any firmware update support for DTS-MA HD or BD-J, have they?

The PS3 is a fairly good player, but the complete lack of IR capability so that it is properly used as a media device within a media system is head scratching.
Gotta nip it in the bud, Andy!

Fair is subjective.  It tends to vary from person to person.

What Warner deal are you referring to?

In the 5th post on page 100, pplchamp mentioned a rumored deal between Toshiba and Warner.  He also said, "If true, why can't Toshiba play fair?"  That is the post I was responding to...take a look, it is easy to figure out as I quoted it.

You went on to quote my reply...which is on the bottom of page 100...that included his post.  Why you did that I do not know as it is painfully obvious you didn't bother to read it.  Had you read it, you would have known why I was talking about what was 'fair'  and you would have known we were talking about a rumored Warner deal.

Please, either read what is being written or stay out of the conversation.  Posting like you just did just makes you look like an idiot.

You didn't say "rumored" Warner deal.  You said Warner deal.  Either way the link I posted squashes that.

Wow, what a debate. I didn't read the enitre 105 pages so forgive me if I repeat any information that has already been discussed. Where does everyone get there information from? It seems to me that there are a lot of facts and figures thrown around with very little (true) information to back it up. What I'm asking is this...In order to make any INFORMED decision one must take a look at all the facts in any given situation and come to a logical conclusion. Notice I said facts, not merely marketing hype. How do you pull together your information and separate the fact from the fiction?

For instance, the idea that Blu-Ray uses the same technologies as HD DVD, as I've seen posted on this forum. That is simply not the case. Yes, Blu-Ray has support for it, yet (to my knowledge) there have been no titles actually produced using it (MPEG4). I could be wrong on that but as I said, as far as I know my information is still accurate.

Another example would be that Blu-Ray players have basically buried HD DVD players in sales. How many of you think of the PS3 as a BD player before you think of it as a gaming console? Sony IS padding the sales numbers by including the PS3 as a player sale. Just as my PS2 does not count as a DVD player (to me), a PS3 doesn't count as a BD player.

Again, just curious where everyone pulls information from?

By the way, with the relatively small amount of love that retailers have shown HD DVD (corporate payouts are great, aren't they?)I think it's a strong indication of true public opinion that HD DVD is even still around. Think about it.

I pull my information from whitepapers, various technical articles, HD movie reviewers, and my own experiments with both formats.

As far as the PS3 not being a Blu-ray player, that is your opinion.  Here's the question.  If it PLAYS Blu-ray discs, how can it logically NOT be a PLAYER?  More than one A/V mazagine has said that the PS3 is one of the BEST Blu-ray players on the market.  Many people buy the PS3 as there Blu-ray players because it is the most feature laden HD player on the market.  PS3 owners don't have to think about Profile 1.1 or 2.0.  It will most likely come in the form of a firmware update.  It is BECAUSE of the PS3 that Blu-ray enjoys over a 2:1 sales lead over HD DVD.

I haven't counted how many MPEG 4 Part 10 (AVC) encoded titles there are on Blu-ray, but I can tell you there are A LOT (at least 100).  ALL Warner Bros. Blu-ray titles are VC-1 port overs from the HD DVD encode.  No, AVC is not mandatory for Blu-ray.  It is not mandatory for HD DVD either.  It's just that AVC and VC-1 are the ONLY codecs that seem to work well with HD DVD's lower bandwidth ceiling.  AVC and VC-1 were made to work for those with severe bandwidth constraints.  Blu-ray has around 66% more bandwidth than HD DVD.  That is why Blu-ray can still use MPEG-2 encodes effectively on their titles.  A lot of people looked at the EARLIER MPEG-2 encodes on Blu-ray and blamed it on the codec and not the source or the fact that they were rushed onto the format.  Now, they are just living in the past.  There are plenty of MPEG-2 titles with 4 1/2 and 5 star picture quality (PQ) on Blu-ray like...The Covenant, Tears of the Sun, Crank, Donnie Brasco, Catch and Release, Layer Cake, Kingdom of Heaven, Volver, The Devil Wears Prada, etc.

Finally, retailers don't show HD DVD much love because they haven't earned it.  Almost as soon as Blu-ray had their real launch in mid-November, The numbers changed in Blu-ray's favor in Dec.  Blu-ray almost immediately caught up with HD DVD's SI (since inception) sales numbers and blew past it.  Blu-ray is still increasing it's lead over HD DVD.  Retailers follow the dominate product.  That product is Blu-ray.  The people have been voting with their wallets and the retailers are starting to listen.

Retailers do not want two formats competing for adoption in their stores.  It takes up too much space and they can't effectively sell 2 formats that compete for against each other for survival.

I'm typing on my PS3 so I can't cut and paste, but this should help you out.

Sony has not confirmed nor denied any firmware support for DTS-HD MA.  BD-J (which is Profile 1.0) is supported by ALL Blu-ray players.  It just runs the fastest on the PS3 for obvious reasons.

Since I have not "forum blocked" anyone (yet), I could quote certain people so others could read their posts filtered through mine.

But I'm undecided as to whether that is an act of cruelty, and if so, to whom...

If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

You have absolutely no reason to apologise. It's only one user that spoils the discussion and now his spam can easily be ignored.
