1. Who is going to maintain this sight. Either someone is going to spend money for this space, or put in a subdomain on an existing sight.
2. Who is going to put forth the effort to design the system for entry (or even a wiki)
3. Who is going to maintain the series of links back and forth from invelos to ?
4. What happens when the person "hosting" the site loses interest in the sight, becomes financially unable to maintain, or any of many other possibilities.
... Those problems can be easily solved, as I demonstrated with Cyrille when we opened the site to share images from movies (link in my signature). Note that the 29000 images in this site take more place than 100000 profiles with only text. The only problem is : Who wants to maintain a cast/crew database following rules that impose wrong names instead the name used by the actors or actresses themselves, and impose to recopy obvious errors such as spelling mistakes ? | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

He allowed me more space for HQ pictures, and in the past, managed a French dvdprofiler forum, so he might give you some space for this (though I'm not sure he is a fan of recopying errors...). As for me, in the past, I had reflexions about a site to share cast/crew on the following basis : - Entry by movie, with different UPC related. - Cast and crew in same order as credits, with same role as credits. Names should be entered following spelling rules of the country of actor (generally this is exactly what does IMDb, and could be easily verified by users from the concerned country). - BY system should be replaced by something that does not allow the lion Shaka (Flyboys) to link with the actress Shaka (Flash Gordon), both BY being unavailable. I stopped all this when I realised it was impossible to obtain Ken accepting the fact that foreign grammatical rules exist, and accepting to change BY to specific ID. Working on something which propagates voluntary errors is something I strongly disapprove. Many people who are movie fanatics are interested by exact information, and letting them download errors is fraudulence, not to say sabotage. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Kudos to you who have been actually working on and thinking about a solution for years. I couldn't let it pass that I had missed this important fact in my earlier comments.
It does reinforce the realization that Invelos must be involved. And I know that you have been trying. I hope the cooperative spirit prevails and we continue to find ways to have fun and take advantage of the tremendous amount of knowledge and dedication that exists around here. | | | Thanks for your support. I hope that One day you will understand that what you want is not data, atlesst reL data. It is bakn knowknowledge and interpretation. The online cannot at anytime be subject to the interpretation of 10000 users or how ever many we have. That happened once upon a time and the online was utter chaos. I understand whatou eNt a.d why you think its a good thing. But the place for what you waNt rests ONLY with your local data. Every months, or every chance you get you do the same thing, I pray that One day the light bulb will come on and you will say I get it. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Dear Winston, In the past, I already had the occasion to explain my position to a user, Skipnet50, who does not come anymore on these forums, but had similar views as yours. To avoid to repeat myself, you can easily find my answers to his questions with a search on this forum. Funnily, this user did not seem to really worry about spelling mistakes, as you don't, if I read correctly your post, but perhaps my English is too poor to understand some subtleties of your language. | Posted: | | | | Why don't we blame Warner, Sony, Disney, Paramount and whatever other movie studios are out there? They're the ones who put the credits (however they're spelled) on the discs! | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

Errors come only when we change on screen credits with Invelos rules : Francois Berleand has two spelling mistakes. Correct transformation is François Berléand (This is just an example among thousands of names). No reason to blame Warner, Sony, Disney or Paramount when the problem is created by Invelos rules. The result of this stupid rule is that CLT has four non linking variants. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

Then you simply take the backups (XML most likely, e.g. DVDProKB) and put them into a new wiki elsewhere. For a test-run on some profiles you (unspecific) could of course use the DVDProKB. 'Only' a test-run because if you want to move to another site later on, the export-function would made that possible, but the "Discussion" linked to a entry is not saved[1]. And those Discussion-page might get important. Naming of the page could/should follow the ID of the profile. Maybe in addition with a human readable title? Although TheMadMartian has already pointed out the first possible problem with that, if someone doesn't have a BD-Drive. cya, Mithi [1] Or at least it isn't right now, maybe this is a matter of configuration. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

| Posted: | | | | Mithi,
Yes, but going back to my idea, the page for each ID would actually be a template with all the fields for someone to fill in and thus when edited later to add/alter information approved by an admin needs access to that info. To me that's using db tables and fields, something I can do using php/mysql, but I don't know how to work that in a wiki. Linking to discussion is simply adding a link back to a forum thread here. Using text only on the page would be cumbersome.
As I said, my idea is just an idea, I've not actually sat down and looked at ways of designing the website or anything as yet.
As to the post from surfeur51, thats a different idea which is related only to cast and crew I believe. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting surfeur51: Quote: No reason to blame Warner, Sony, Disney or Paramount when the problem is created by Invelos rules. Not true. Credits are always correct. I have many, many discs where the credits are in all CAPS and accents (like Ö) are present. CSI: Miami is just one example. I also have titles where the actor/actress is credited without accents and with accents within the same TV season! So the blame lies squarely with the ones who put the credits on the DVD's. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets.
