Sadly, I suspect you're both right. And I find that completely and utterly disrespectful on Invelos' part. There's been much made about people leaving the forum because of one user or another, but the real reason has always been Invelos' lack of stepping in. Well, this last bout of disdain for their customers is the last straw for me. No, I'm not leaving. But I've decided to do my small, tiny part to hit Invelos where it hurts. Over the years I've been as much of an advocate as I can for DVD Profiler. With Invelos links in my signature on many other forums, with dozens of forum posts recommending the program ( here's the last one I made) and with many personal recommendations to both friends and strangers in DVD stores. No more. Given the behaviour of Invelos, I can't in good conscience recommend any of its products. And just for the record, I'm not even saying they definitely has to listen to more than 90% of poll respondents. But to not even make an appearance, letting us know what is or isn't going to be done? Completely unacceptable. | | | Tags, tags, bo bags, banana fana fo fags, mi my mo mags, TAGS! Dolly's not alone. You can also clone profiles. You've got questions? You've got answers? | Posted: | | | | I think we might want to give Ken and the community a little more time before we become discouraged. It might be that many others would like to weigh in but have not as of yet. The original poster only brought up this topic less than 41 hours ago. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

| Posted: | | | | What I consider to be tremendously funny, is that we have a group of 5 - 6 users here who keep picking on 1 user and then complain that he's picking back. Once more: I don't know who started this and I don't care about it. What I can't stand (and I'm sure I'm not alone here) is the behaviour of a three year old in (possibly) grown-ups. If you provoke publicly and then run to Mom (Ken) because the provoked gave the correct answer ... While I generally agree with the proposal as such (because it would finally give consistency), I'm not quite sure if those supporting it because of the (obvious) aim fully understand the consequences. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

No more. I've just removed the Invelos link to my collection from all my signatures at the other forums I frequent. For the last 7+ years I've been one of Profilers most ardent supporters, but the laissez-faire attitude of Invelos towards the forum community has finally made me see the light. It's OK for Invelos to benefit from the work of the forum community (Plug-in development, database building and beta-testing), but when it comes to handling a problem that has run amok for over 7 years, and has been repeatedly been a hot button topic for said years, they stick their head in the sand and do nothing. It's too bad that they can't be as meticulous with the faithful following here on this forum as they are with the software. Quoting Astrakan: Quote:

I am willing to bet that the group of 5 - 6 users believe it is the 1 user who keeps picking on them, then complains that they are picking back. I don't know whether or not you consider me one of those 5 - 6 users, but I will give you an example of what that 1 user does. See here.I make a post concerning what the rules say about ratings and he makes a condescending post questioning my work ethic...not the first time he has done this 'unprovoked'. So, please, before you go thinking everybody is picking on 1 user, take a look at his behavior. I am not saying he always fires the first shot, but he fires his fair share of them. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There really shouldn't be any need to feel you need to justify your position. Anybody who is even remotely interested in the subject will, with the barest amount of research, quickly deduce that there is only one user who is in the middle of every single pissing contest that crops up on these boards. You can't say that about anybody else, let alone 5 or 6 others. The easy position is to say that everyone is at fault, but it's not supported by the overwhelming body of evidence. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting TheMadMartian: Quote: The problem, once again, is perspective. Agreed. But I can only "judge" from what I see and an avatar that ridicules the avatar of another user isn't a good point to start with. And comments like "it's only a parody on Walt Disney" don't make it any better, even worse in my eyes, because it reveals the writer of such a comment either as completely insensitive, or as a blatant liar. Choose what fits best. I admit that both sides have their shares in this comedy, but other than stated by some users, it is possible to ignore him. Oh, and I didn't consider you to be part of this group. I very well know that this user has his clashes with several other users as well, but there's this "usual suspects" group that always shows up. Sometimes by provocation and sometimes starting the provocation. I've seen more than one thread started out of this group with only one aim: A more or less hidden attack on Skip. Not to forget the notorious "Moderation Trial"-thread which more or less developed into a general Skip-bashing session. No matter how you turn it, if both sides do their best to leave nothing but burnt ground, this poisons the atmosphere of the whole forum. What I really appreciate is the truce between Surfeur and Skip, it's fragile and sometimes a small battle fires up, but all in all it's kept. Possibly because both chose to ignore each other (if possible). So as said: One group should be grown-up enough to stop this. Or if it isn't possible to do so, at least stop to whine about about sharp replies on sharp answers. There is no guiltless between those two groups. Mind you: This doesn't excuse any of the derailments that happen too. Quote: I am not saying he always fires the first shot, but he fires his fair share of them. You fail to recognize that you have no credibility either, you have revealed that you have an agenda in this just as does the OP and many of his colleagues.
Me. I am trying to resolve this. I find this running to daay to change our diaper collectively to be fairly distasteful and counter-productive and takes Ken away from working on the Program. As I have said I believe that this can be resolved by an adult community who wants to improve itself, sadly some users continue to demonsttate that their personal agenda and or vendetta is more important than the community and getting along, now exactly does that speak top more negatively. I know what I would say. Now we have users actually trying to black mail Invelos into some behavior, which summarily tells me that if that's what they want to do then the community is probably better off without them. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | The more I read through these endless pages of finger pointing and pissing contests the more I believe that Ken should shut down the forums altogether. There would certainly be disadvantages to that, the biggest likely being a huge influx of support tickets as the forum community would no longer be available to assist their fellow users with technical problems, site navigation, etc... but consider this for a moment.
If a new user were asked to join the forum community, explore the posts and mingle with its members before they were permitted to try the product... do you think they would even give the product a chance or take it seriously given the current embarrassing, rag tag state of the forums as they are now? I sure as hell wouldn't. As it happens, I tried the product first, fell in love with it and then ventured out here into the forums. I find it utterly amazing that a product as useful, polished and amazing as DVD Profiler is allowed to be represented by a community that at a glance appears to be hateful, vicious and condescending, most disturbingly, those posts directed towards new users. It is unprofessional to the extreme and undermines the product. The fact that users are now withdrawing their referral and marketing support should be an enormous wake up call for Ken, if nothing else has.
I am not going to sit here and pretend to have not participated in these shenanigans myself over these past few days. Comments I have observed from a particular user have ignited a fire in me that surprises even myself... and I told said user exactly what was on my mind, with no regrets. However, when you see members who are normally quiet, reserved, 'lurkers' coming out of the woods and weighing in then you know that it is officially out of control and needs to be stopped.
I run a blog/forum geared towards movie and dvd/bluray enthusiasts and never have I encountered the type of hostility that is on display here among the Invelos users... nor would I ever tolerate it. Particularly if any of my members tried to belittle or were rude towards a new user. Those people would be dealt with quickly and harshly. It might sound extreme but the community would pick up on that right quick, there would be no confusion as to what the boundaries are, and I guarantee you wouldn't see the chaos like we are all witnessing now.
Even though we are all paid subscribers to a product, personally, I still think of myself as a guest here in these forums. My subscription fee entitles me to nothing more than the functionality and support of the product. For anyone who believes it entitles them free reign to behave anyway they see fit in these forums should think twice. Whether people realize it or not, we are all ambassadors of the product in the eyes of new visitors who come here looking for a solution to their movie database needs. That, should be first and foremost in Ken's mind if and when he decides to do something about this mess.

| Posted: | | | | Other than the person in question, who has been hateful and vicious to new users? From what I've seen it usually goes liek this:
Newbie: How do I do this common or simple rules question Helpful person 1: explains how to do it. Helpful person 2: gives caveats or alternate suggestion troll: The answer was obvious. Don't wreck this program like you did DVDSpot. Don't try to force your views on the public DB, etc.
I've occassionally see other users get in arguments abotu contribution rules and such, but only one rips into newbies with any frequency. I am excluding people with questions abotu how to pirate the program or whose first post is about how everything sucks. |

Oh you are quite right in assuming that the newbie bashing is pretty much confined to one member.... but whether it's one member or 10 members that are giving a new user a hard time it makes no difference, particularly to the new user! The negative impact is the same to both the new user and the reputation of Invelos. It'd be like allowing Howard Stern to man the phones for the Kids Help Line. It's completely irresponsible to allow that to happen unchecked. I never thought I would say this, but I miss the days when all people on here only whined and complained about when the new IPhone app would be ready... | Posted: | | | | All too sadly I see a some users who are trying to work on this issue. While others are so utterly consumed by their own hatred directed at a sinle user, that is almost sad tio behold. I truly feel sorry for these people. It is more important for them to hold on to the hatred than to try andmove on for the good of then Community, I think this clearly speaks to some users maturity or lack thereof. Let go of your hatred, it will only consume YOU, it will not affect the target, and it will make YOU a very miserable person for it will devour YOU from within. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! KC Well, it does make a difference when you're saying the forums should be shut as opposed to cleaned up. It strikes me that clean-up is easy and would be good for the bottom line as Invelos won't be losing potentially dozens of paid users each year who get chased away from the program. | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

| Posted: | | | | I feel very sorry both of you Kinky and Ace.
Ace your behavior has chased away more than a few, yourself. You do not have clean hands, please don't pretend that you do.
And Moderators please remover his last post as well, his personal attacks and insults grow tiresome, noty to mention his very clear agenda and vendetta. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here
