| Posted: | | | | Nice. Thanks for checking. Even if the chance is high to get slapped: Why not doing similar with accents? We could enter an actor as credited. In the online it just shows the as credited name and at a download it would go to "local name" ["online name"] and at once all different accented or without accents written would link together. As my local name would the one that is shown as major I could always have the correct or liked version, no matter what is the common name. |

Well, I don't know. I never update my profiles from online, skip all changes and lock fields of all profiles. Then why do you care about this issue this much? This is an issue that only affects the people that do deal with the online database. I understand you want to change how things are handled, but it isn't happening anytime soon. All you are doing is complaining about things that don't affect you since you don't actually contribute anymore, nor do you use the data from the online database. What exactly is your argument regarding this topic: the formation of a new forum to discuss CLT? |

Then why do you care about this issue this much? I feel concerned by the whole community, and specially people who have not the time to build their own database with correct linking (which is the main issue of the online data (no problem with the program itself)). When I contributed, or shared translations, headshots, layouts or images from movies, it was to give others the best data or tools I had, and perhaps I sent sometimes wrong information (errors for some headshots ?), but it was never voluntary.. When I go on a site providing information I need but for which I don't have the time to verify, I would get wild with people giving me information that they know to be wrong. This is the worst attitude that somebody can have, betray voluntarily other users. Perhaps this seems normal for those who mainly care about their contribution score, but I hardly accept it. The only way to please most users is to have a new linking system, so to say Ken that we are not happy with this part of the online (this has already been done many times in the feature request forum, without any reaction), and certainly not to say him "Please, Ken, give us a new forum dedicated to this marvellous common name system, based on CLT", as some users ask here. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Ken has been asked to replace the linking system since it was introduced. And the only answer I ever saw from him was that he considered those options as well and believed this was the best alternative. This was shortly after he created it. So whether or not that remains the case only Ken can say... but I never seen anything to make me believe he is considering anything else.
As it is we only have one way to do it per Ken's decisions. And I for one feel that if I am stuck with that one way... I want it to be as simple as possible. And I believe that the new forum would make things simpler for us, the ones stuck doing it. | | | Pete |

As it is we only have one way to do it per Ken's decisions. We have two ways : -contribute per the rules correct data. -not contribute wrong data. If some fields remain empty, Ken will analyse why they are never contributed, and will correct things. But giving other users bad information is not fair. | | | Images from movies |

You will not see any changes to the linking system, at earliest, until a new software version appears (if even then). Based on previous updates, this could be a year from now. The current system is in the rules and must be dealt with. The forum isn't being asked for because people want to express their love for the linking system, it is being asked for so the Contribution forum doesn't require people to wade through those legitimate threads. You noted that it has been asked many times in Features Request forum for something to be done. The fact that it hasn't been solved means a solution isn't right around the corner or that Ken will not (or doesn't want to) implement a different system. Keep asking in the Features Request forum, but there is no reason to argue here where it falls on deaf ears, as we users can't do anything about it. We can't just hold off and hope that something better appears. If it does, great. We'll deal with it then. For now, we are stuck with the current linking system and a forum dedicated to solving the existing problems is the best way to go. |

| Posted: | | | | Can I say that this thread is beyond retarted? Surfeur is certainly laughing non stop since he had succeed to bring this completly off-topic. He is the only one who doesn't agree with a new forum to do what we do already in the contribution sub-forum... so why do we loose all our time trying to discuss with him again He doesn't like the system and will never like it anyway, so just ignore him and keep the focus on the subject who is the creation of a new sub-forum and not the linking system. |

| Posted: | | | | I feel another (minor) plus to a new forum would be that about half the pinned topics in the contribution forum would be moved to the new forum. There is so many pinned topics in the contribution forum now that current topics are pushed to the second page rather quickly. And to me at least... that many pinned topics just looks bad in a single forum. | | | Pete |
