Not a peep in the rules...in fact the guide for TV series specifically calls for using Disc IDs and makes no mention of treating them like Box Sets. I guess Skip's oft-promoted 'compromise' is dead in the water. So any TV Series contribution using box set contents instead of disc IDs seems to be completely against this brand new version of the rules.

Also the rules for cast inclusion say to include everyone in the main profile using episode dividers. Again no mention of child profiles. I guess Skip's 'inside info' was mistaken...or at least still extremely premature.

Based on what I am seeing there is even less provision for Child profiles of TV series than the previous rules.

I hope Skip can accept this. I betcha Hal is happy.

I'm sure we'll get it sorted out pretty soon. Knowing Skip and Hal I'm certain ( ) whatever Ken wants us to do they will do.

An official reply from Ken would be nice and help get things rolling

There's a bunch in the DB already so I guess they're sneaking through one way or the other. I think I'll hold off on doing any more myself.

Guilty

I personally would like to see them stay but would understand if they need to be pulled.

What I'd like to see is a hybrid of both method. I know, I know, there's going to be all those "what about database consistency and redundancy and what not", but still.

If people want child profiles for TV Series (and boxsets, in my opinion), so be it, but those that don't want them should still have a full profile available in the online for the master. So what if some data is repeated from the master to the childs? And it's also a heck of a lot easier to remove data, then enter it.

Anyways, I've not sent any TV Season/Series and/or Boxsets exactly because of this child profile issue, which is still as vague as it's ever been.

Right now, we are just trying to get the contributions processed, if we need to work out more rules in the next weeks, we will.

In the meantime, you are probably going to have to be a little patient with me as I orient myself to the rules. I used to do contributions all the time, but I am a bit rusty

Not a problem at all, Gerri. I don't think anyone here expects a flawless transition - with a new database, obviously we'll have some kinks.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

I'll take any bet that Skip has a different spin on this than you Bob.

I have noticed that he is busy contributing TV Sets with boxset contents to the new database!

No surprise there!

Just for clarification, I have never been opposed to the creation of child profiles for TV Sets.

You better not be parsing there, lads!

Of the TV children I submitted earlier, South Park, New Doctor Who, How I Met Your Mother were all accepted, but all bar one of the X-Files was declined. I guess we're still in the same limbo until Invelos has it out.

Thanks for noting it Gerri, although I gotta admit that TV children never were sanctioned by any rules.

Now, let's all bully Tom to make a nice new edition of the cast and crew editor for v3!

Fair enough. And to continue the fairness to skip, I contributed a LOT of profiles directly from my imported database (including more than one group of child profiles for a TV series) before it occurred to me to check for changes in the rules. Now I am trying (and probably not always succeeding ) to avoid contributing those profiles that may not be supported by new rules until the chum settles a bit and the water clears. I imagine most of us, including skip, are in the same...umm...water.

Looking forward to seeing some definite rules on TV series... For instance, in some UK TV series sometimes there is only one 100 minute episode per disc, like the "A Touch of Frost" series. Should these episodes be contributed as separate child profiles using disc ID (e.g. "A Touch of Frost: Series 1: Episode 1: Care and Protection"), and then be added as Box Set Content to the Parent profile (in this case "A Touch of Frost: Series 1")... OR should all discs in the box be added by disc ID as Discs (instead of as Box Set Content) in the "A Touch of Frost: Series 1" profile, and then all cast and crew for all episodes be added to the "Series 1" profile using episode dividers?

I KNOW THIS IS NOT PER THE RULES, AND I WILL NOT BE SUBMITTING THEM.

They way I have been handling TV sets and the way I plan to continue, is to have a main profile for the slipcase and then child profiles for each keepcase or thincase in the slipcase regardless of the number of disc in each thincase.  If there are 2 disc in the thincase, I use only one child profile for that thincase.  This just makes it easier for me to keep up with and mark as loaned if I lone it out to a friend.  With the divider in 3.0, I can divide each episode and each disc.  Example Stargate Atlantis or Battlestar Galactica.

For Digipak, I have one profile with all the disc listed in the disc section of the profile.  Example Lost.

I do it pretty much as Boykin does.

Basically, I create a profile for everything with its own cover. So, if its a 6 disc set in a digipak, that's 1 profile. If its a slip case, with 3 keep cases and 2 discs in each, then that's 4 profiles. One for the slipcase which has the ean and 1 each for the 3 keep cases.

As I don't care much for cast/crew, but do care about cover scans, I find it works best for me. Saves duplicating cover scans among profiles.
