How do we handle cases where the edition is on a sticker, but not on the case itself?

For example Best Buy will have an exclusive for The Wolverine where the edition is on the sticker.

Quoting the contribution rules:
Quote:
If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box

Non-Standard descriptions are all those that don't show up in the default "Edition-Pull-Down-Menu".

So in your case this means:
If it doesn't show up on the cover itself it is not an edition according to DVDProfiler.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

OK, it looks like it's on the back.

So this edition would be 4-Disc Unleashed Extended Edition?

That's where it becomes difficult.

While I would accept this, I'm aware of others that interpret "from the box" as "has to be on the front-cover".
I'm not quite sure now, but I believe there was a clarification from Ken some time ago supporting this "front-cover" interpretation.

I would also accept this as well. I have other titles in the same situation, and that is how they are done. Not saying if it's correct per the rules or not, but it seems to be acceptable. Unfaithful (024543058946) is one that comes to mind...can't think of the others at the moment

I don't have any problem with it being included either.

Since "from the box" and "has to be on the front-cover" are spelled completely differently I would not interpret them as being the same thing.  I think "from the box" should include any portion of the box.

Unfortunately Ken clarified as front cover only... this means we loose a lot of needed editions... but that was his decision.

Looking for the link now.

Edition helps distinguish between different releases, but it does not bear the full responsibility of that differentiation.  Per the rule, use the built-in editions when applicable, but tread lightly when stepping out of those choices.  When considering non-standard edition text, make sure it both:

- Help to differentiate versions - AND-
- Is prominently displayed on the front cover.

Any other interpretation of this rule starts us down the path to things like "Avatar: The Slightly Taller Version with the Blue Sticker"

Notice specifically what I put in bold.

I hate this decision... and tried multiple times to get Ken to change his mind on the front cover only. But as of yet he hasn't done so. Even though he did say later in the same thread that he would consider it.

Well, I know locally I'll be using what's on the back cover since I'll probably be getting this release

If it's not in the Rules it's not a rule.  If Ken is too busy/lazy/indifferent to put it in the Rules then I have no problem disregarding it.

I would see voting "no" in these cases as being an explicit violation of the voting rules.

Sorry... but I will always contribute and vote per Ken's clarifications. As most people on this forum does.

Ken purposely don't put all his clarifications in the rules. Because he sees them as such... clarifications of what the rules he has means. I agree that it would be better if he did in this case but I would prefer he change his mind on it instead.

As for seeing it as a violation of the voting rules. Report me... since I am following what Invelos themselves clarify I don't see it going anywhere. All my votes per clarifications I can easily point to the clarification. Just because he clarifies in the forum don't mean we can ignore what he says for us to follow.

And this is coming from someone that absolutely hates this particular clarification.

Ken clarified his post later in that thread:

Note that the condition for prominent front cover display applies only to non-standard editions (those not included in the program's drop-down):

I know - I just thought both of Ken's posts should be highlighted.

Yet another example of why I lock the Title section of my local data. This is a valid Edition and should be entered into the Edition field.

After requesting further input Ken never came back and addressed the matter further - he should have.

I opened a support ticket with the image from this thread and pointing to this thread. Hopefully it will make a difference... but I have done that before and the ticket was just ignored. So who knows.

It would be that way in my local as well... but as long as Ken don't change his mind I will only vote and contribute per how Ken clarified.
