I never liked the new rule for using Credited As for honorifics. I personally thought the way we had it to start with was always a better choice... but that is neither here nor there for this post.

I am getting the film Airplane. In it Dr. Robert Nevin has an uncredited appearance. And that is how he is listed in the profile.

Now the only way to link him to his other appearances (i.e. Medical Examiner in Jaws) is to drop the honorific... as you obviously can't use Credited As for uncredited cast... or you can't have his appearances linked.

I haven't tried yet... but I can see a lot of no votes if I just remove Dr. from his listing in Airplane. So I wanted to ask here how this should be taken care of. That way if it is agreed that I should submit this I at least have something to fall back on to show both the no voters and screeners.

On a side note... I would still like to see this rule reversed. But somehow I doubt I will see that happen.

Thoughts?
Pete

The only way to do this is to drop the honorific. At least this will link him to his other credited roles.

Agree. Drop the honorific.

He's Uncredited in Airplane.  That gives you some flexibility.

Common sense (yes, i know, wrong forum) says do what links the two.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Yeah the honorific needs to be dropped. Not ideal but at least it will link the person correctly.

I've had no problems doing so - just refer to the rule on honorifics, and it should be perfectly fine.

Do the Right Thing, and don't let your fear of rejection stop you.

Use IMDb names and keep everything local, you'll have no more any linking problem. There is a very nice plugin to do this easily.

His Common name is Dr. Robert Nevin (per CLT). So by dropping the Dr. from his name you are knowingly entering incorrect data (Per Invelos). But you can't enter Dr. Robert Niven (Honorific rule) in a uncredited role.

guess it's a catch-22.

But since the rules tells us that honorifics do not go into the name field... that is all that is needed to prove the CLT wrong... which is all we need to do per Ken's clarification!

It goes in as credited as, so they do show up in the CLT.

The honorific rule doesn't change the actual screen credit.

yeah... but the rules tells us even if it is the most commonly credited form to not use honorifics in the name field. So using Dr. Robert Nevin would be against the rules. The rules tells us to use Robert Nevin. Then with Uncredited it is impossible to use credited as... so can't use honorific. So the way I read the rules... uncredited Robert Nevin is the only answer that is per the rules.

I am kinda surprised there still hasn't been any votes on it. What with as popular of a movie it is. But then again there is a load of different releases for it.
