| | Posted: | | | | I bought and installed on my Desktop PC the LG bluray combo player .. ( I think it even plays back HDD too) .. I do not need to- or care to-- burn any Blue ray .,, I just want to have this $70 DVD rom player installed so it can ''see and play back'' Blue Ray dvd's .. It works fine with regular DVD's So I know it is hooked up fine .. It can even see the name ( in text) of the inserted Blue Ray Disc ...  BUT No disc ID .... as most of my screen view shows the drive as 'ghosted out' .. Came with Power dvd10 so figured maybe I should update to Powerdvd12 ( another $50) .. and I still have the same problem no reading of inserted BD disc .. Ran the program called Cyberlink BD advisor and with some screen grabs says it Failed on two areas: ( the Graphics Card I have is ATI Radeon HD 5450 ) / graphic card driver -8.982.0.0 is one and the other says I have an analog connection.. ? My digital flat screen Acer monitor has the standard 9 pin connector from video card to staright wired in back of monitor .. I don't have or use HDMI like I do in the living room ... Kinda anxious to get this puppy up and running but because it is New Years Day today most or all of support for either LG or Cyberlink Poweredvd are days behind in support help .. | | Posted: | | | | Without a proper HDCP protected cable you won't get to see hi-def images on your PC. But if you have the old VGA cable you should at least get the analogue picture. Have you tried to update your video driver because that seems to be the first obstacle. What you could try is installing AnyDVD HD which removes the whole Blu-ray protection crap. But then your PC has to be fast enough to decode the BR picture without support from the graphics card GPU. | | | Karsten

Why can’t PowerDVD output Blu-ray Disc movies on displays using analog connections anymore?
Subject to the Analog Sunset rule, from January 2011, all Blu-ray Disc players made and sold are not allowed to output high definition(HD) content via analog connections. In other words, if your display doesn't have digital, HDCP-complaint, DVI or HDMI connections, you may not be able to watch Blu-ray Disc movies in CyberLink PowerDVD.
Copies of CyberLink PowerDVD sold before January 2011 can still output HD Blu-ray content in analog mode, but some newly released Blu-ray Disc movies may not play back due to the Analog Sunset rule. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. If your monitor doesn't support any of these input methods you'd need a new monitor as well. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

If your monitor has a matching socket (not necessarily of this colour, but of this shape) all you need is a new cable. If your monitor has only an analogue socket you'd need a new monitor.
There are DVI -> VGA adapters with which you could connect the digital output of your graphics card to the analogue input of your monitor, but this wouldn't be of any help, since the connection-type would be automatically downgraded to "Analogue". | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

I really only need this BD dvd rom for disc ID and quick checks for profiling don't really care about pure digital output.. my current monitor is capable of 1153 x 780 ..) didn't really want to have to buy a new upscale monitor.. )

| | Posted: | | | | Recognizing the disc ID should be possible at any time. Enter a Blu-ray into the drive and Windows Explorer should show you the disc's name and also the file structure. This is completely independent from the ability to actually play the video data on the disc. If Windows Explorer recognizes the disc then so will DVDP. It looks something like this:   | | | Karsten

Installed the DVI adapter and this allows me to see and set the disc ID with Profiler .. ( hooray) .. and I can only see the photos or menu items on the screen .. No movie playback .. So I am currently in the market to find and buy a 19" or smaller monitor with HDMI input ..
