The conribution rules on the "Edition" field say:

Quote:
Do not enter media types (such as "Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy") into the edition or title field.

How does this affect the "Triple Play" banner that is often seen on such combo-sets? Like the more exact description that is used in the role, "Triple Play" tries to tell us the exact same thing: that the box contains a Blu-ray, a DVD and a Digital Copy. Given that, am I to assume that "Triple Play" shouldn't be entered as an edition either?

Agreed, similar as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack which isn't entered in the edition field either.

Pantheon makes a compelling argument and I'm changing my vote to include this data in the Edition field.

On second thoughts: I fully agree with Pantheon.

And, surprise surprise, I disagree. At least here in the UK, you can have a Double Play, Triple Play or Single Disc release all on the same day.
Also, and more common, the Triple/Double Play release first followed by the pared down Single Disc release later on.

The Triple/Double play edition identifier is an easy way of identifying these releases in the 'add by name' section. Also, and more importantly, it's on the box.
However, if the box simply stated: Includes Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy but the actual words Triple Play were not on the box I wouldn't include it.

Totally agree with Pantheon; I don't put in the "Includes Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy" as that is describing the Media, but Triple Play is a very useful delimiter for adding by name (and often other than Triple/Double Play there is no other information suitable for the Edition field so you get 3 titles with identical names and released on the same date) and is on the cover... in fact it sometimes says "Triple Play Edition"...

I also agree with Pantheon as, no matter how you slice it, 'Triple Play' is not a media type.

If that is the case shouldn't the combo packs be put in the edition field as well as most/many have single disc versions as well?

Depends... does it actually say Combo Pack on the front cover? The ones I have seen don't. And the rules states it must be there.

Good point.  I don't have a dog in this hunt, so I really don't care one way or another.

While the ones I have seen only usually only say Blu-ray +  DVD + Digital Copy or Digital Copy Special Edition, why wouldn't that be a valid entry for edition?  For the same reason Triple Play would be valid?

Just because the media type is listed?  Also FWIW if that was the case I'd probably remove them in my local, just playing devil's advocate.

The rule says
Quote:
Do not enter media types (such as "Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy") into the edition or title field.
(bold by me)

Now, like the OP says, "Triple Play" is just another way of saying exactly that. So, in my book, that's against the rules. Pantheon et al argues that including them is convenient. Well, convenience does not trump the rules. And therefore I think it should not be included.
