When I manually edit a studio or media company in a profile I get the message:
"Access violation at address 00000000 Read of address 00000000"
and a request to send an error report to Invelos, which I do.
In 90% of the cases the numbers are all zeroes, as shown above. Occasionally the message is different, like:
"Access Violation at address 00883DC7 in module 'dvdpro.exe' Read of address 000001CC",
once I got:
"External exception C000001D"

What I've tried but didn't help:
- Use the Database Repair Utility.
- Uninstalled DVD Profiler, restarted my desktop, re-installed DVD profiler.

What can I do to solve this?

The last time that I saw this error, in order to fix the problem the person had to do a system restore prior to the point when the error began.

This would suggest that the error is being triggered by a registry key or file outside of the ones removed through an uninstall.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

Thanks for the reply!

That could be it.
Now to find a solution, 'system restore' let 's me go back for about a week, but the problem exists for at least a month already.

Does anyone have a solution?

Still haven't found a solution.

When I choose to not sent an error report to Invelos eventually Dvd Profiler crashes. Get's stuck in a loop of error messages.

How do I remedy this?

Try the following:

Check if the error still occurs if you start Windows in safe mode (Press key F8 at startup).

If "Yes" please come up again.
If "No":
- Run "msconfig" (Windows "Start" -> "Run" -> type "msconfig.exe" (without inverted commas))
- Disable all autostart programs and non-M$ services
If this "solves" the problem:
Enable them again one-by one and see when the error occurs again.

If not please come up again.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Thanks for the reply!

I've done what you wrote:
- in 'safe mode' the error didn't occur: I edited about 10 studio's in Dvd Profiler without a problem
- after disabling all autostart programs and non-M$ services I tried to edit a studio in Dvd Profiler and the error was immediately back again, alas

Can you help me further?

Do you have any Plugins installed in DVD Profiler? One of them may be the culprit.

Launch DVD Profiler and when the splash screen displays press CTRL+ALT+Shift until the application is fully loaded. This will launch DVD Profiler without any Plugins. Try editing a profile and see if you get the same error. If so, then one of your Plugins is causing the Access Violation. Uninstall your Plugins, then one-by-one reinstall them to find out which it is that's causing the problem.

If your Plugins aren't the issue, then it could possibly be a problem with your Layout. If you are using a Layout other than one of the invelos default layouts, try changing it to one of the defaults and see if that corrects the Access Violation

At least we can say that the problem isn't within DVDProfiler itself.
When you disabled all autostart programs and non-M$ services, did this include your security software?

If it was disabled too, it seems to me that your OS-installation is not quite in the recommended status (for not saying: It's f***ed-up).

Finding the culprit now may take a while:
In "msconfig" select "Diagnostic startup" (which basically is "safe mode") and restart.
If DVDProfiler is working without problems again enable the services first (one by one) with a restart and function test after each restart.

The faster way would be to do a reinstall of your OS.

Thanks for the reply.

Alas, I tried both, but it didn't solve the problem.

Ok, this is ridiculous.

Stop all the madness and do some simple easy stuff:

(1) Start DVD Profiler with no plugins (CTRL-Alt-Shift)
(2) Open a NEW DATABASE (totally empty)
(3) Add one or more DVDs, using the official Invelos method.
(4) Now, repeat the actions that used to cause problems (edit a Studio or Media Company)

You should have NO PROBLEMS with this. Now it is a matter of determining which Plugin or which Profiles are casuing the problem(s).

If you do have the same problem, you are wasting your time trying to debug DVD Profiler. Your problem lies elsewhere - probably a corrupt OS, or corrupt Microsoft .NET library.

If you have another machine, you can cross-check by loading variuous databases on that system.

You will quickly determine whether or not the error is in DVD Profiler or your System by using those two simple tests.

Please do these tests, which should take all of 10 minutes, and report results.
Thanks for your support.

Thanks for the reply.

I created a new totally empty database with plugins disabled.
I added 5 random dvd's.
when I tried to edit the studio of the first one simply by selecting a different studio I got:

The same kind of errors occur on my pc and my laptop.

So, when you start Windows in safe mode with cold boot everything works fine
and when you're doing a diagnostic startup the error occurs.

That's extremely strange, since both startup variants are supposed to be identical.

Since the error occurs on both of your machines:
You don't have, by any chance, the eMusic Download Manager installed on your systems haven't you?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

"The same kind of errors occur on my pc and my laptop."

Ok, I'm on the verge of disbelief. Somehow I don't think we have the whole story here. If you are telling me that two completely different systems, with completely different installations of DVD Profiler, both with a NEW DATABASE, no plugins and 5 random DVDs loaded, gives the same error, that nobody else is getting?

Assuming that you are not joking around, it is clear that you have some software on both systems that conflicts with DVD Profiler. It is unlikely that both systems are corrupt in exactly the same way, unless you have cloned them, and if you really truly did the tests on two systems with different random DVDs, then I don't see how it could be a specific database problem.

So, that's my diagnosis, until or unless you reveal some information which is now hidden from our understanding (Lewis_Prothero gave an example of one well-known incompatibale software).

Thanks for your patience, and yes it's perplexing me too.

Answers to your questions:
- "So, when you start Windows in safe mode with cold boot everything works fine and when you're doing a diagnostic startup the error occurs. That's extremely strange, since both startup variants are supposed to be identical."

Yes, that's exactly what happens. Since you said it's extremely strange I did it again, with the same end results. The only difference this time is that I got the following message with the diagnostic startup:

I ran the repair utility, Dvd Profiler started, and the error was back when I tried to edit a studio.

- No, I don't have eMusic Download Manager installed on my systems.

- "Ok, I'm on the verge of disbelief. Somehow I don't think we have the whole story here. If you are telling me that two completely different systems, with completely different installations of DVD Profiler, both with a NEW DATABASE, no plugins and 5 random DVDs loaded, gives the same error, that nobody else is getting?"

Yes, that's what happens. When I made the NEW DATABASE I got the following message (I changed Dvd Profiler setting to 'English' so you can read the full message):

After this the NEW DATABASE loaded and the errors occurred when I tried to edit studios, on both my systems. Though the digits in the violation codes differ each time they are the same kind of errors, and it only happens with 'studios' and 'distributors'.

- "Assuming that you are not joking around ..."

No, I'm quite serious.

- "... It is unlikely that both systems are corrupt in exactly the same way, unless you have cloned them ..."

No, I haven't cloned them.

- "... and if you really truly did the tests on two systems with different random DVDs ..."

Yes, I did.

My laptop is a Windows Vista, my PC Windows 7, I use my laptop for adding and editing dvd's.
I had never tried editing dvd's on my PC until today and was quite surprised (and disappointed) that the same kind of error happened there too.

Thank you both for your help so far.

I know there is something you are not telling us. I trust that you don't know that you should.

For example:
(1) Have you changed the default install directories and / or other folder paths? The path shown in that error message seems awfully strange to me.

(2) Are you sharing the database(s) on a NAS or other shared storage?

(3) Is DVD Profiler running in client / server mode (shared database)?

If so, uninstall DVD Profiler, then reinstall and accept all default installation and other paths. If you are running any other version than the latest official version downloaded from the Invleos site, shame on you. Do not accept any version of the software downloaded from somewhere else. It could be corrupt.

That's my last shot.
