| Posted: | | | | I tried to do a Search for this but every time I try, the Search times out.....epic fail. Before I actually do this and risk screwing up my collection I wanted to ask: When you choose the option to remove a DVD from your collection (either via the DVD menu or by right-clicking on the DVD, then selecting ' Remove from Collection') does it automatically adjust the numbers in your collection to fill the void you just left? Or does it just leave a hole there and you have to adjust the numbers another way? I'd rather not have to do that if it can be avoided, I have my collection set up the way I like it and having to manually adjust the numbers after removing a DVD might screw up the order I have them in. I tried to adjust the Sort By titles so something like that wouldn't happen if someday it turned out that I had to resort them, but it got to be a little overwhelming and I gave up about half way through... If it doesn't automatically adjust the numbers upon removal, can that be a feature request for a future build? Thanks, -kd5- | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. (Soran) |

| Posted: | | | | Is there a way to Reassign Collection Numbers without changing the order I have my DVDs in? Which options would I choose? What if I don't want to Sort By: Purchase Date, Release Date, or Title, I just want to eliminate gaps?
Thanks again, -kd5- | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. (Soran) |

| Posted: | | | | Typically, you would use the same options that you used to sort in the first place. But that does imply that at least once you let the program do the sorting...
I would advise to send in a change request, but noted that you just did. Until that gives results (don't hold your breath), I personally would fill in the gaps by letting new acquisitions take their place, if I found the particular order to be important at all. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | I would hope an option can be inserted into the box that pops up when you choose to remove a DVD from the collection, giving you the choice to eliminate gaps.
Until then, you're probably right about replacing a DVD you want to eliminate with a new addition.

| Posted: | | | | Actually, that won't work unless the DVD you've bought occupies the same place in the alphabet. Unless/until an option to reassign collection numbers without making any other changes is made available, the only option at this point is to rename 'Sort By's' and hope Reassign Collection Numbers doesn't mess the collection order up so that you'd have to spend alot of time rearranging everything once it was complete. -kd5- | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. I'm a little confused - it sounds like you want the dvds in alphabetical order? So why don't you just sort them alphabetically? Then the collection number would be immaterial. | | | Paul |

| Posted: | | | | My DVDs are in alpha/numeric order, both alphabetically and numerically. As I get a new DVD, once entered in DVD Profiler, I choose 'Insert Collection Number' where it needs to be alphabetically (which moves all subsequent numbers up one, or down one depending on how you look at it), then renumber the new DVD (using the empty spot I just created) so that it is in both alphabetic and numeric order. I am somewhat of a neat freak and a little bit of a perfectionist... -kd5- | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. (Soran) | | | Last edited: by kd5 |

| Posted: | | | | I may be misunderstanding but if you just do "Reassign all Collection Numbers" and Order by "Title" it will apply collection numbers to match your alphabetical order automatically so you won't have to do so manually | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | Yes but it makes other changes as well. Unless you go into each season of each series, each multi-disc DVD, and each new movie in a franchise (Star Trek movies for instance) and rename the Sort Title for each disc/movie so that when you Reassign Collection Numbers they are not also rearranged, then once the Reassign Collection Numbers is complete you have to go into your collection and change everything back. I have each disc of each series, each disc in a multi-disc DVD, and each new movie in a franchise arranged in alpha/numeric order (Ex: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, or Star Trek I, II, III, IV, V (with subtitles), etc. which would get rearranged as well, with a Reassign Collection Numbers by anything). I've been trying to go through my collection and rename Sort Titles so that wouldn't happen if/when I needed to Reassign Collection Numbers but it's a MONUMENTAL task. It would be so much simpler if there was an additional option to Reassign Collection Numbers without making any other changes, and it would also be nice to have that option available when/if/where you needed to Remove a DVD from your collection. It's really not that extraordinary a request. -kd5- | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. (Soran) | | | Last edited: by kd5 |

| Posted: | | | | Seriously, If you work with CTRL-C, STRL-V a lot, re-organizing sort titles of roughly 800 titles is only a 2-3 hour job which has only be done once.
I know it, because I did it.
Even though I number by purchase date again, there was a time where I numbered alphabetical.
Just like in a game it's a controlled usage of keyboard in the left hand and the mouse in the right hand.
I still do it all the time, because I don't like the many different series formats like "Bones: The Complete Fifth Season: Disc One" or "JAG: The Final Season: Disc 2". For me, it's all "Bones: Season 5: Disc 1" and "JAG: Season 10: Disc 2" in the title. Then I copy the part "Bones: Season 5: Disc " and paste it into disc 2-6 and just add the number again. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I don't even know what CTRL-C or STRL-V does, all I know is that even with whatever those options do, a 2-3 hour job would become unnecessary if we just had an option to Reassign Collection Numbers without making any other changes. No 'Order By's', no Rearranging, just eliminate the gap that you created by removing a DVD from your collection. -kd5- | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. (Soran) |

| Posted: | | | | The key combinations CTRL-C, -V, and -X and a standard for almost all windows programs. CTRL-C copies the selected item or text, CTRL-V pastes it and CTRL-X cuts it out*. You usually find the same commands in the Edit menu of windows programs like Word or even your browser.
I'm just trying to give you an out here. DVD Profiler usually updates around every one or two years and even then it's not certain that your feature request will be implemented.
* I think the historical reason for that is that the X looks like a pair of scissors, the C stands for copy and the V was just the next key to them. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online
