| Posted: | | | | I am not so sure if this is the place to ask but here goes....
I don't have many TV series, and as such really want to start off my listing in an appropriate way for me. That being said, I would like some opinions about how and why..
Cast and crew can be included in the parent and children for the TV series. I personally do not see the need for both, and this would throw off actor and crew counts (doubling). I want to do it in my local one way or the other and would like some feedback...
So as O'Reilley says
What say you?

| Posted: | | | | For TV series it's mandatory (at least for the on-line) to have parent profiles at the Season level, whereas disc-level child profiles are optional. This is why in the case of TV series parent profiles are to contain all data, including Cast and Crew.
Perhaps you're best off limiting yourself to the Season-level parent profiles, if you want to prevent doubling. |

| Posted: | | | | Since child profiles are optional for TV series, I would say put the cast and crew information in the parent profile, just the opposite of what's done for movie box sets.

| Posted: | | | | I personally use the cast and crew lists in the child profiles and delete it from the parent profiles. I do this for two main reasons...
1. smaller lists makes it more manageable 2. Gives me a better count of what actors I have on what discs... instead of only what set. Say I have someone that guest starred in 2 episodes... one episode on disc 1 and one on disc 2. It actually counts and shows on 2 profiles instead of 1 profile listed twice. | | | Pete |

The problem is, some want it one way and the other the other. It's a question of philosophy. If you only care for the season profile, then delete or don't even download the disc profiles. You will then have only the cast & crew on the season profile. If you do care about the child profiles (e.g. for watch tracking) then you simply remove the cast & crew from the season profile and lock it there. Then again you will have only one set of cast & crew. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

If i'm making changes or creating the cast/crew listings i submit for Parent and Child. Then i remove the parent listings. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | I only store the season level profiles in my local database. Therefore I'm happy with the current rules.
BTW For film box sets it is exactly the other way around. There I only care for the child profiles (one per film). |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not interested in changing the rules for the online and I understand different strokes for different folks.
I can Always delete in my local, and that is why I asked for my local.
I just want opinions.

If you do care about the child profiles (e.g. for watch tracking)... Tracking what I already watched is another big plus for me having child profiles. There is many times I will watch a disc or two... then put the set up for months before going back to it. Being able to make per disc as watched helps me out a lot to know about where I left off. But of course that has nothing to do with where you prefer the cast and crew. | | | Pete |

Each disc, in a TV Set, is like a single film for me. When I watch them, I watch every episode on the disc, so episode level profiles, for me, would be useless. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I started creating episode profiles for my TV series, deleting cast/crew info from the parent, which obviously makes it impossible for me to contribute cast/crew or benefit from online cast/crew data - but it's the only system that really makes sense for me. | | | |

That's easy to do just by adding a NOTE when you mark a DVD as viewed. No child profiles are required to track that info. --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks Scott... but I won't do that as I don't use watched stats for parent profiles at all. I see the parent profile as nothing but the case the discs came in. | | | Pete |
