I have version 3.5.1
For the the first time in a while I'm trying to add a DVD to my collection, but all I get is the message:

Online profile list required
The online profile list is required for this option, and is not yet downloaded. Download now?

I click Yes, and a dialog appears for a split second, then disappears.

I've tried running the database repair tool, but it didn't help.

Any ideas? Is there a log file I can look at?

I imagine you need to upgrade to version 3.6 It was recently released and I would think all the downloaded files would be for the new format.

OK, thanks. I was in the middle of working on a plugin and I didn't want to screw anything up by upgrading. But I guess if I must, I must.

UPDATE: Upgrading to 3.6 didn't solve the problem.

UPDATE: Adding DVDProfiler to the firewall exceptions list didn't help, either.

Tried that too. No dice. I'm about out of options at this point.

Try deleting (well moving somewhere safe actually!) the files OnlineList.dod and OnlineListSel.dod from the directory:

Documents and Settings/'username'/Local Settings/Application Data/DVD Profiler

It sounds to me like they are corrupt and removing them should force a full re-download (it will take some time but should only be required once)

I don't have either of those files anywhere on my system.

Perform a full backup of your Database (File --->Backup)

Put it someplace away from profiler install

Completely uninstall dvd profiler (remove profiler program directory and DB directory in your document folder)

Download new copy of profiler and perform clean install

Restore backup

Try again...

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling dvdpro, no change.

I have been able to "catch" the screen that pops up briefly when attempting to download profiles -- it's the "Internet Database Connection" dialog:

Current File: Online Profile List (2.3 KB of 2.3 KB)
All Files: 2.3 KB              Download Rate: 9.1 KB/sec
Download Complete

X Error                            Online Profile List

Close this window when complete                                Close

Download Complete

After uninstalling, did you manually remove (or verify it was removed)  your DB directory in your document folder and the program directory in Program Files?

Also make sure to remove any profiler beta directories at the same time.  Basically make it like your system never had Profiler installed.

That was my best guess.  I would open a support ticket.  Under support on the site, down near the bottom.  Be sure to detail exactly every thing you have tried.

Anybody know what's supposed to be in the file

<user>\AppData\Local\DVD Profiler\Import\OnlineList.inf

?

When I hit Online->Refresh Online Profile List, via ProcessMonitor I can the see that dvdpro creates this file, exchanges some TCP messages with mail.invelos.com (about 4K worth), then disconnects. I assume it's trying to download that file, but if I look at it on my filesystem it's empty.

If it helps any, I checked that file.  It is created when you do a refresh, then deleted immediately after it is done with the refresh. Not sure what is in it though. It also seems to be only created when there are updates pending.  Hitting refresh again, with no new profiles, and the file isn't created.

It's something to do with my network. When I run my connection over a VPN, I can download the profile list just fine, but it doesn't work from any of my machines while connected directly via my ISP.

I've checked the logs on my router (Astaro), and there's no indication of packets being blocked to or from invelos.

Very strange.

On these machines have you tried changing the Online settings?

Tools -> Options -> Online tab

then check/uncheck "Use alternate connection method" (depending on its current state) and/or supply info about server authentication/proxy server if your ISP requires it.

You can Test Internet Connection after each change to see if it worked!
