NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Profiler does not use IMDb for legal reasons and accuracy. They are, infact, one of the least accurate databases around. If you wish to copy their data it can only be for your own use and is NOT Contributable.

Please review our Contribution Rules, they are not specificallymentioned but they are a third party database.

In addition tghis is from IMDb
"All content included on this site, such as text, graphics, logos, button icons, images, audio clips, video clips, digital downloads, data compilations, and software, is the property of IMDb or its content suppliers and protected by United States and international copyright laws. All software used on this site is the property of IMDb or its software suppliers and protected by United States and international copyright laws."

We only use the ACTUAL film credits, the only wy if you are building the profile from scratch is the to type them in.. That said we have well over 400,000 titles in the Online database, while that does not guarantee that any given movie or TV Show will be their and ready for download...the likelihood is pretty high.

Dj Doena has built an excellent tool that does exactly what you want. You can find it on this page. The tool is Cast/Crew Edit2

The contribution rules do not allow to contribute data coming from a third party source, as IMDb, but you can use those data in your local database without problem. The great advantage is that IMDb names link correctly, which is not the case when you take names from end credits.

All data from imdb is available for download, though, and it's possible to use it for private purposes.

http://www.imdb.com/interfaces/

It should be possible (and legal) to set up a local copy of imdb, and make a plugin for DVDProfiler that fetches data from this local imdb-instance, and displays it in DVD Profiler. The biggest obstacle would be to connect every movie and TV-episode title to their imdb counterparts. I'm guessing that Invelos does not want this information in their database, so it'll have to be up to the plugin to find as much as possible automatically, and let the user connect the rest of his db.

LOL, surfeur, I have to wonder what you don't understand about IMDbs own words

"Robots and Screen Scraping: You may not use data mining, robots, screen scraping, or similar data gathering and extraction tools on this site, except with our express written consent as noted below. "

Or does that prohibition and attendant risks caused by Copyright violation mean nothing to you. Now don't forget that IMDb, while it is currently a subsidiary of Amazon, they are still based where they have always been based, right across the channel from you, Great Britain.

I presume that mymovies has some sort of written consent that allows them to use the data, if they don't....

I have an import in my "Cinematic Collection Viewer" program for these data files. But this data files do not include cast and crew data for movies. Only trivia, plot, alternate version, mpaa rating etc.

Also the next CCViewer (Awards) plugin version will include a html window which can display such additional data in DVD Profiler if you connect to the same Viewer database.

The reasons are very simple, tron, first as I noted IMDb is absoultely the least accurate database for movies that has ever been created.

Secondly
Minimum Price: We offer data licensing packages that are customized to meet your needs with annual fees ranging from $15,000 to higher depending on the audience for the data and which data are being licensed. We are not able to offer any sort of data license for less than $15,000.

Let me repeat MINIMUM of $13,000 per year...surely you would not expect Invelos to expend whatever fee they would be charged and still be able to charge ONLY $30.00 for the program. Most programs who do license from IMDb run charge $50 and higher for the program, why do you think that would be true? Because the users are paying the fee to able to license the use of that data..

WOW, but more importantly as I noted, they are flat-out THE WORST, if accuracy means nothing then great use it.

Perhaps you missed the recent review, in which the reviewer stated about DVDProfiler:

"It consists solely of data submitted by DVD Profiler (Unlimited) users, and is more complete than the publicly available sources used by the other programs reviewed. Everything from cast and crew lists to special features and even thorough descriptions of any easter eggs on each disc are included."

Sure. IMDb consists solely of user-contributed data, so there's no way it can ever be as good as professional systems

I'm not suggesting Invelos should license data from IMDb. Not at all. Especially not at those prices.

However, downloading the datafiles, and setting up a local IMDb-instance does not require a license. Writing a tool to read and present the data from a local instance does not require a license. Thus, a plugin for DVD Profiler that reads data from a local IMDb instance and presents it in DVD Profiler does not require a license.

So, what I was "suggesting" (and I use the term loosely, since I also rejected the suggestion), was that a lookup key (basically, the movie title as it is stored in the IMDb data files) could be stored in DVD Profiler, so that it would be possible for the plugin to automatically find the correct info in IMDb. I doubt that there are legal obstacles for doing this. There are plenty of other reasons for not doing it, though, and it would simply be a lot better to leave this up to the plugin-author, if anybody ever actually creates a plugin like this.

Skip,

The OP was asking if there was a program that would fulfill his needs in regards to using the program he purchased. Nowhere in post does the OP state that it will be used for contributions to the database.

As you can see, the OP is a newbie. And a response that started with the text I quoted could come across as aggressive and hostile.

I don't wish to argue with you but IMDbs own words

"Robots and Screen Scraping:

They used NO qualifier that in any way indicates that you can scrape their data as long as it is personal. Can yiou copy their data for personal use...YES....Can you scrape or use any data mining tool...NO.

What does that mean, the way I read it, it means you have to type the data in from IMDb, MAYBE you could Copy and Paste line by line...but they might consider that scraping....though for personal use i am not sure i would sweat that, to put it simply I think that they would do themselves no PR favors by trying to argue that Copy and Paste is a data mining tool. But as I read it any scraping or data mining is a big No-No, not matter the usage, unless they give express written consent.

It's their words, not mine, and they are clear...to me. Even thoughit is a UK based company and we all know the Brits can't spell.

Nowhere in this post does he mention robots and screen scraping. Your answer to his post should have been...

Quote:
Yes there is, it's a plugin by DJDoena, one of our forum members. Here's the link...

http://doena-soft.de/dvdprofiler/index_en.php

This plugin is not affiliated with DVDProfiler so use at your own risk, and remember, IMDB data cannot be used for contributions.

Now, which response do you think was more helpful and friendly, your original response or this one?

Should you really be commenting on spelling? Really?

Yet again, a new person asks a valid question and you rip his head off. You're a dick, pure and simple.
