| Posted: | | | | This is something I wonder for years now (even when I was a user at the IVC forum). How many users with a Unlimited Registration Key are out there (in the world, your own country)? How many of them are active (contributing to profiles)? Can these numbers be shared with us, or put in a "Number of Members" page (per total and per country), under a new tab "members"?
Also, maybe some sort of a "Contribution Ranking", under that very same new tab "members", might be a good idea, which might spiff up the "good sport" a bit, that is to make DVD Profiler's database as complete and correct (and up to date) as possible.
Any official and less official words on this? | | | Last edited: by MatrixTom |

I really don't want to see what's going to happen if we get the "Contributor of the Month" | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | I agree we don't need a monthly table. An all-time table (much like this one we already have for submitted links) would be nice though. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know if it's technically feasible, but perhaps a count of the number of contributed DVDP fields could largely solve that. |

It does seem strange that one can collect stars by bickering in the forum (a better choice of word would be arena), but not for contributions. But this should not trigger a race of insignificant modifications. So accepted contributions only, and then for example for scans, cast/crew, original overview, first contributions, but not just a CoO, MC? But who makes the rules, and who decides? Not another voting system surely! | | | Hans |

Not another voting system surely! Actually you can collect (or rather vote for) stars for contributions, if you know where to look. When you "Evaluate" a contribution there is an icon on the right side of the same line as "Contribution Notes:", just below the "Vote No" button. Click this to see all the contribution notes and the most recent ones should have the red/green arrow buttons. The arrows are available there for the same amount of time they are available for forum posts. It is so buried I confess i seldom even think to use the arrows, even when i see an exceptionally good contribution. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

Skip I agree Dr. That is frustrating due to the fact that we need to vote several time on one title. I do try and submitted several changes at once per title. It would be interesting to know how may registered users there are. |

| Posted: | | | | I used to do only full audits, however, there are so many data fields that generate such high drama on these forums (especially cast and crew) that I now limit my contributions to those fields that are indisputable (or as indisputable as things get here in Invelos World). | | | Hal |

I agree, also with much of what was said by Dr Pavlov, goblinsdoitall and tweeter. If you care, care just a little, about your own db, you keep it locked. Why because you can not trust the validity of the update contents. Some people think that just because it has been said in the forum, (arena), it's gospel. And even if something is said in the forum is correct, whose to know because the haggling goes on and on for pages. If a topic goes on for more a couple of pages, screw it. I got better things to do. I got several hundred profiles I could update wiith one or two changes, but I don't need the aggravation. I got better things to do. MatrixTom, you've around long enough you should know whose update you can trust. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. That seems to be a good idea to prevent people moaning about manipulating results by contributing "too little" at a time. That whole argument seems daft to me anyway. If I see something wrong I correct it and I don't (and am certainly not going to) feel obligated to do a full audit. Cast and crew is something, so far, I mostly steer clear of (too many BY and Credited-as problems for me, at least for the time being). The rest I dó check every time I've already noticed a different error anyway (if it looks at all fishy that is), and I tag this in my local. So most of my contributions will be more than 1 change, but not all. I'm against any kind of "ranking" system. We have enough arguments as it is. Even just the suggestion of it has caused some people to criticize others (albeit in general). But to satisfy the mistrusting and paranoid among us, if there has to be one, I'd vote for Dee1953jay's solution. Steve |
