| Posted: | | | | Dear all,
Title says it all really. There is a contribution for UK R2 DVD Dark Water EAN 5023965343628 which among other changes adds Tartan Asia Extreme as Edition. Is this really true? I know that the cover does have a banner on the front and back declaring Tartan Asia Extreme but nearly, if not all, of Tartan's titles have some form of banner stating this or Tartan DVD or something similar.
What does the community think?

| Posted: | | | | No, it isnt, its a distributor. Just because Tartan butchers your DVD covers by splattering their logos everywhere, it doesnt make it anything more then a mere distributor. I would vote no! |

| Posted: | | | | As Whispering says, Tartan were only the distributor. I read an article some time last year saying they had gone bankrupt & a company was named for taking over most if not all of their releases but I can't remember who. |

| Posted: | | | | Tartan Asia Extreme is, or was, a label used by Tartan Video, the home entertainment division of Tartan Films. Labels seem to be one of those things that are still undefined by the rules... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Just because they slap the name in every single part of the cover, doesnt make its meaning any "bigger". |

| Posted: | | | | Okay, gotcha, not unlike Dimension Extreme.
What about Dragon Dynasty? Not unlike Criterion, they are a collection (the only thing missing on the label is the word "collection", but they are numbered). | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | Thank you all for your input. I will vote accordingly, which is not too dissimilar to the way I was going to vote anyway, and also seek out some other titles which currently have Tartan Asia Extreme in their edition fields.

| Posted: | | | | Really? I was considering "Tartan Asia Extreme" to be something like "New Line Platinum Series," which people have been putting in as edition for years. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

Simple
The Criterion "Collection" is a Collection, therefore a valid edition whereas Tartan Asia Extreme is a Distributor label and not a valid edition. While the Criterion Collection is indeed a collection, it is also the name of the company that distributes that collection, and therefore belongs better in Media Company, rather than edition, IMO. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

After a couple of months of public inactivity, they've finally started to show signs of life by moving into the theatrical distribution with some of the assets they've picked up (both in the US and UK). They were apparently trying to grow their catalog before releasing titles. Here is an interview from back in July about their future. There is a quick follow-up as well. | | | Last edited: by synnerman |

| Posted: | | | | I have been trying to look into this since rasing it and so far as I can work out with Tartan they have/had 2 or 3 different banner headings for their titles. If it is from Asia and it has heavy violence, horror or major action then it will be bannered Tartan Asia Extreme to reflect the content. They seem to have a banner Tartan Grindhouse but I don't have any titles in that area and don't know too much about their choice of banner for their selected titles. The only other banner I could find is their most common one Tartan DVD which seems to catch all other titles released through Tartan no matter where they originate.
If there is any special extras or details then Tartan generally appear to release Special Editions which are labelled as such as well as the usual banner as above.
