| Posted: | | | | This is more of an inquiry on understanding how Profiler works than tech support.
I inserted a DVD and the message appears "Inserted DVD not recognized. Add manually? Blah blah." My assumption with this message is that the movie with the same ID is not in the database (It is part of a boxed set, identifiable only by an ID and does not have its own UPC).
Skipping ahead, I added a similar version of the movie to my collection and went to change the UPC/ID to match what is currently in my DVD drive. In trying to do so, the message pops up "UPC recognized." with the correct movie name listed for that ID.
I am just curious to know why this would happen because it seems like the two are contradictions of each other. It's either recognized or it doesn't exist. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | The first message "Inserted DVD not recognized. Add manually?" meant that this ID was not yet in your local database. If it exists in the online database and you download the profile, then it comes in your local and is recognized. If you add it yourself in your local (edit profile -> disc -> set), then it will be recognized. | | | Images from movies |

The program is 'local only' until you tell it you want to contact the on-line db. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Yes, I've only been working with this for a few hours ... how did you know? Since you've been at this for over 10 years, please tell me what to do. I spent all day loading almost a hundred disks in the db and everytime I put one back in the drive again, I get this error message. Why don't the disk ids match? | | | DVD/Blu-Ray Collection

| Posted: | | | | Do what Unicus said - Click on the Add DVD icon first (DVD with a + sign). There's a tab there for adding an inserted dist (far right). |

| Posted: | | | | Note that sometimes a movie is a reissue and the Disc ID that is in the master database for the movie in question won't match your DVD and it will say it doesn't exist. Sometimes, though quite rare, a Disc ID will pull up the wrong movie. In those cases, search by the UPC.
Probably be a lot faster to search by UPC anyways, even more so if you pick up a CueCat scanner off of eBay for under $10. |

| Posted: | | | | Sometimes a movie has more than 1 Disc ID, which could be the problem. I would download by UPC and then contribute the profile with your Disc ID, so that this doesn't happen again to someone else. It's my understanding that Ken keeps all the Disc IDs in the online database, so you really won't be deleting anything, just adding to the list. | | | We're on a mission from God.

If you are adding all your DVDs by inserting them into your drive, you are doing it the hard way. The preferred, and easiest, method is to enter by UPC. | Posted: | | | | I tried doing them by UPC and, more often than not, the UPCs aren't recognized. These are not offbeat titles either (Gladiator, Monsters Inc, Eyes Wide Shut, Fight Club, etc...). So, I have to enter them by title and then select the one who's pic matches mine. Then, I have to remember to wait for the title to get added (about 5 secs) then hit CTRL+E, select "Discs", and click on "set".
I know you think this is trivial but I've been at it all day and I'm about 2/3 thru. I just don't get why the software didn't do it for me. It prompted my to see if I wanted to add the disc to my collection. I clicked YES. Then I selected the proper title and clicked "Add Now". Because I clicked YES in step 1, the software should always set my disc-id regardless of whatever was downloaded from online.
This is just a small complain. Obviously, if I didn't think this software was worth it's weight in gold, I wouldn't have paid for it and I wouldn't be spending all day tuning the database! | | | DVD/Blu-Ray Collection

There are tons of Profiles for all the titles you mentioned. It is a user built database, I don't know where you are, but it is possible that users in your Region Locality/Region have not yet entered the titles. Titles don't simply appear the database, Ke4n and gerri don't have that kind of time, it's up to us.

| Posted: | | | | I would be interested to know this information as well. Would it be possible for you to give us a couple of the UPCs you had problems with? There might be something you are missing, as a new user, that we could help with. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
