Hey, I was thinking since so many DVDs (and Blu-rays) are coming with digital copies that -- and it's not going anywhere anytime soon -- that maybe it could be added to the special features.

Great idea!  A big thumbs up on this one!

It's getting more and more prevelent so the sooner it's added the better.  (There will be less profiles to go through  )

It's not common enough to be included as a checkbox IMO. Besides, not all "Digital Copies" are physically included with the DVD/Blu-ray purchase. Many are actually downloads which you have to pay an additional fee for. I think it's fine the way it is now by just adding them to Other Features.

I have to agree with 8ballMax...
The latest one I got is every episode of Supernatural: Season 3... and what you get is a piece of paper with the address to go to. But I personally don't think it is enough to need a checkbox at this poiint.

I don't think there's any question that it will become more prevelent as time goes on.  But even as a limited number out there I still think it merits a checkbox because it is a significant piece of information worth having easily accessible for search.

I can't imagine ever saying "Wow... I want to watch a featurette" and filtering that way.  But I can see someone thinking "What films have digital copies so I can take 'em with me on the plane".

In that case I think we should remove production notes/bios. Also, I think there are enough studios doing this that it is worth putting on there. I mean, we have the aforementioned prod notes/bios, DVD-ROM content (which is, I think, less common than bios now), interactive games, multi-angle (not many of those), THX Certified (in my 2000+ collection I have 63).

Point is with WB, Sony, Disney, Universal and others doing Digital Copies and it's seemingly not leaving, why not add it now for the 3.0 release? Some you have to pay for, but we already have rules with interactive games that only the ones that can be played on the DVD player, so why not a rule stating the digital copy must be in disc form and not a download (whethere it's free or not)? Just throwing ideas out there.

Edit: And I agree with Snark, I think people would find the info useful. With the Other Features option, you can't find which titles have a digital copy.

Edit 2: BTW, I if a majority of people don't feel this would be a good addition, that's fine, but I thought I'd bring it up (I do think we need to take a second look at production notes/bios, though, lol    That is SO old school DVD)

The general feeling I've seen expressed in these forums concerning Digital Copies is that they're worthless coasters!!! And now we want to add a checkbox to Features for them???

I don't think it's necessary.

I think this is a very valid point. For now, it can be accomplished with tags if one wishes. But these do seem to becoming widespread and I can see the value of the checkbox.

I am just the opposite... matter of fact I have done it (filtered on featurette) more then once. It is something to do when you don't have time for a whole movie (or tv show) and want to watch something you haven't watched yet.

... but at the same time I couldn't imagine doing something like this for digital copies. especially when you consider they are not always on that disc (or a seperate disc)... that they are hosted online (and for how long... who knows?!?!).

May be Old School DVD... but I for one have  use for production notes and bios... as well as interactive games. Though I do agree with you on both THX and multi-angle.... never seen much use for those two.

I just personally don't see a need for this at this point. (If I ever will... who knows) That is my opinion on the matter... from there it is up to Ken and what he wants to do.

I think this is a very valid request.

Sorting and reporting is a little difficult on the "Special Features" field.

Unfortunately it isn't, because a Digital Copy is just that: DVD-ROM content.

Really, do you still use the prod notes/bios? Personally, I just go to IMDb for all that info (which on the DVDs is now 6-7 years old)... To each their own

Yes I do... why else would I say I have a use for them?

I personally do not care for imdb... and don't go to that site unless I absolutely have to. And why do you say 6 or 7 years old? as I have loads of releases from the last couple years containing bios/filmographies.

But as I said... this is my opinion on the matter. from that point it is up to Ken on what he wants to do. I was just letting my opinion known on the matter at hand... no more and no less then that.
