Following discussion over on this thread, this is an request to have a new case type added to DVDProfiler.

The "Handle Case" is an increasingly popular case type, particularly for Children's programs.

I'm indebted to W0m6at for the following research:

Possible Titles:
Handle Case
Carry Case
Kids <sic> Carry Case
Kidz Carry Case
Carrying Case

Some links to web sites selling DVDs that use this case type:

EzyDVD (Australia) - 349 Items

Play.com (UK) - 87 Items (Approx)

DVDPacific.com (US) - 13 items

Amazon.com (US) - 8 items, slightly different format

Amazon.de (Germany) - 7 items, though mostly UK imports

This case format typically has a paper insert which has actually returned to standard CD-like dimensions, so if/when this case type is added to DVDProfiler it would be could to have some direction as to whether the front and back cover scans should be of the whole case, or just of the paper insert.

Cheers,

Michael

Although generally we only do inserts, an argument could be mounted to include the entire case in this circumstance since they are available in a variety of colours, and afaik, each title exclusively in a particular colour (so Title X will always be the same coloured case).  I think Michael mentioned in his initial post that the insert often is colour-coordinated with the handle case itself.

In addition to the follow-along titles linked by Michael, Amazon also do list a few "standard" carrying case titles (linked in the original thread).

I think it would look best if we scanned only the paper insert, but Ken added a handle "banner" just like the HD titles. That is, if this fine request is implemented.

Except the handles are different colours unlike HD/Blu ray titles...

Not that I really have an opinion either way on this issue.

You could still do it this way just with an extra option of colour. It could be done by having the colours selectable in a drop down list.

Seems to me that's making it overly complicated and what do you do if they add new colours?

The same thing you do when they release the replacement to Blu-ray or they add a new audio format, etc... You make a request.

With those cases, there aren't that many colours anyway, I've personally seen 4 different (green, red, blue, yellow) but it wouldn't be that much to have around 10-15 in the list from the get go.

You say it's making it over complicated, but I personally don't see it being any different to selecting the correct options that we have now & would only involve 1 extra step.

Add the case type and forget the color.  We don't track color of keep cases now and although they're usually black I have a pretty good selection of green, orange, blue, etc keep cases.  I don't see why we'd need to do anything different with handle cases.

Agree. I too have an assortment of colo(u)red keep cases and see no need to track whether it's black, white or pink. Just get the case type added would be the thing to do (IMO).

Although if Ken does decide to do colors he should add that option to the rest of the case types.

Actually, on second thought, sometimes they get released in multiple colours so it wouldn't be possible to track anyway.

To add to the list of names, DVD.co.uk (32 results) list them with the prefix "Carry Me" before the title, and have a range of colours that include some I've not seen elsewhere (which should be enough to quash ideas of identifying the colour of the case in the program).

Shouldn't we get "traditionally missing" case types first? Like Tin Case/Box or "hartbox" (sorry, don't know the english word) or those book-like things.

Any chance of some pictures or links or examples? I'm not familiar with any of those types.
