Should the studio for box sets only be the dvd distributor/company and not the studios credited in the films credits?

I didn't see this covered in the rules. If it's listed I must have missed it.

Bringing this up because I've noticed some box sets list just the dvd company while others list other studios such as Lucasfilm or major studios such as Paramount Pictures. 20th Century Fox and others.

I think it should be only the dvd distributor listed in the parent profile for box sets, and the other studios listed in the child profiles imo.

Just wondering out loud.

That's the way I do it too - I class studios as film data, and as we don't include audio, video, cast or crew I don't see why we should include studios.

I didn't see this covered in the rules either... but IMO I think the same as you... for the boxset profile it should only be the DVD Distributor.  I can see the case being made that if all the movies use the same companies.. but I personally still wouldn't like it. Mainly because it will throw off the numbers of actual movies when filtered by studio... as it would be showing up for both the actual movie and the parent profile... that inflates the numbers making you falsely think you have more for that studio then you actually do.

That is my opinion on it at least... others may not agree.

Generally, I'd like to see all the information in a box set profile which is correct for all the films in the box set. Therefore I think all studios which are correct for all the films should be listed. This is usually the DVD distributor only but can be more in some cases (e.g. for series of films like the "Back to the Future" box set).

As I said though... that enflates the numbers when you filter on them and (probably more importantly) in the charts and graphs... you won't get the true numbers because it is marked for the child profiles per movie... as well as the parent profile.

I agree with Cubby, North, Berak and Pete. The films in the box set might also share e.g. the same soundtracks, video formats, subtitles and/or director, and per the rules we don't enter those in the parent profile either.

Disagree with Rho as his method improperly reports inflated statistics in charts & Graphs as well as filtered studios. Therefore, I agree with everyone else .

I agree but want to point out that this is proper if we're discussing box sets of films and not of TV series.

I make the distinction for TV series because we're supposed include the same information in the parent profile that's in the child profiles -- since not everyone wants to use child profiles for TV shows.

I agree - TV Series must be handled different from Movie Box Sets (as Addicted2DVD already pointed out).

Yeah... I still need to finish going through mine... but when I am done... LOCALLY my TV Show parent profiles will look much like the Movie parent profiles (very empty)... I personally like everything at disc level.

While it is obvious to most of us veteran TV-show profilers, I just wanted to make sure the casual reader or newby knows we're talking about movie sets and that TV show sets are treated a little bit differently.

I agree.  When I do a profile for a box set, I only enter the DVD distributor for the parent.
