What is the best way to handle multiple-movie sets like those big movie packs from Mill Creek, where 50 movies are spread over 12 double-sided discs?  An example is Chilling Classics (UPC 826831-070186).  This exists in the database with no cast/crew info.  Should the 50 titles be listed as separate child entries, or should all of them just be listed with dividers between each title?  I've seen both methods used for other releases, with no rhyme or reason from what I could see.  Just wondering what the "proper" method is.

I'm afraid you're looking at quite a few profiles here!
Each side of each disc can have it's own profile in the online. So that's 24 you could end up downloading.
If you have a DVD drive, trying sticking the discs in and Add by Disc, otherwise you can search by title and probably find them that way.
As the UPC profile is for the whole lot, it's treated as a boxset and should be mostly blank.

Edit: if you decide to add by disc, remember to flip them over to get the profile for the other side.

OK, so currently only the empty main entry exists in the database, which means I have some work ahead of me!

Adding them by Disc ID may not be possible. I have some sets like this... but smaller uisually 10 movies on 5 discs. and there has been a few times when they use the same Disc ID on more then one disc.

And sometimes the Disc ID is the same as the individual movie sold by itself.

Your best bet is to buy an extra one and give it to Skip.  He can't stand owning movies that aren't profiled.

Likely many of the films were released individually.  You could temporarily download those profiles (i find the wish list good for this) and capture their Cast/Crew into your new profiles.  That will save you some typing.

Of course then you need to watch the films and verify/update the credits before submitting because there likely are some errors (or uncredited you won't be able to verify) you can eliminate.

I have a couple Mill Creek compilations i'm saving for winter.  Mercifully they have disc-level profiles already but i need to verify them.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Take a look at this upc code in the data bank  ( # 683904200310 )    it is a Mill Creek release of The Legend series The Legend Begins with Early Alfred Hitchcock Films  . There is four Discs and each disc contains 5 movies.. Therefore what I did,, and it was approved, was contribute the one UPC code and then put in dividers for all cast / crew and all seperate titles..
As you can see it looks good an is a perfect way to contribute a boxed set with a multitude of titles on each disc.. If you use Disc ID ..you would have to then split the titles between each disc ID and contribute that disc with those titles using the Divider method..

It's a lot of work..  took me over a week of editing and typing ...

Thanks Terry.  I actually own that Hitchcock set, so it was easy for me to check out.    I think I'll do the same thing - it seems to make a lot more sense to me than splitting up the files into the 12 discs.  With any luck I'll get done by Christmas!

i"ve done the x-files, split over 59 disc's, it takes some time, but this will improve with the new 3.5.

I have a similar set: the TreeLine Films 50 movie pack "War Classics" (UPC 826831-070124) and did all the child profiles (by Disc ID) for it. As northbloke said, there were 24 of them to do - took me about a week. There were usually 2, occasionally 3 movies on one side of a double-sided disc - I used dividers to separate them.

AFAIK, for movies this is the correct way to do it. For TV, you could squeeze them all into a single parent profile. Creating child profiles for TV sets is allowed, but not compulsory.

This is a timely thread.  I just purchased 3 Mill Creek boxes (Essential TV Westerns, Ultimate TV Westerns, and Essential TV Westerns).  Each box supposedly contains 150 episodes of "classic" TV westerns.  Shows like:

Annie Oakley
Adventures of Kit Carson
Adventures of Jim Bowie
The Cisco Kid
The Roy Rogers Show
Bonanza
Wagon Train

I have only begun the task of profiling these -- and was about to post a similar question myself.  The problem is more complex because some discs have more than one TV show on them -- so how should I describe the disc?  Episode 1-3 wouldn't be accurate.

I haven't looked at any of the episodes yet, or counted to make sure there are 150 per box.  For the price, I'm not expecting very high quality video/audio, but I think this may be the only way to get some of these older TV western series.  (e.g., Why hasn't anyone done a GOOD season by season set of Bonanza yet?  I've seen episode collections marketed, but nothing like the Gunsmoke or Rawhide sets.)
Another Ken (not Ken Cole)
Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges.

I thought the algorithm had been changed for Invelos and they're now all supposed to be unique?

It has been a while since I tried to profile one of those sets... so not really sure. I will have to check my set that I couldn't profile before.

FWIW, I'm in the midst of cataloging the Chilling Classics set and every disc so far has had a unique ID.

PS - I've decided to do as dee1959jay suggests and create a separate child profile for each side of the individual discs. In my mind this makes more sense since it allows searching for each title in the box set using filters, which isn't possible using just dividers within a single profile (AFAIK).
