Has any body got any of these new contributions for the easter eggs to work. (Press 7669 and Enter on the remote and you should get test patterns to calibrate your HDTV.) I tried The Fifth Element and Bram Stroker's Dracula and neither of them would work.

Haven't tried it myself but it seems redundant to include them if they are a standard feature on all Sony discs...

7996 is SONY.  I saw these mentioned in the insert on one of my blue-rays, but never tried it.

This feature/easter egg only works with Sony players. I had to put it into my PS3 to make it work. I first tried it in my Panasonic player and it would not work. In my opinion it should state that in the easter egg field. It should say something like this

Press 7669 and press enter on your Sony DVD remote and you should get test patterns to calibrate your HDTV. This only works on Sony DVD Players.

I agree. If it is Sony-only then that must be mentioned in the description.

This is a disc feature, not a player feature.  It is NOT Sony players only.  I just tried a couple of these discs in my Samsung player and it came up just fine.

I tried it on my Panasonic DMP-BD30 and it didn't work. I can only type in three digits then the player jumps to nowhere and goes back to where it was. This feature is not accessible with all players and consequently I voted no.

I voted yes, because it does work one two brands of players, maybe even more. It's also a hidden feature on the disc, making it an easter egg.

A no vote would technically violate the rules, even if you cannot get it to work since others can. Looks like your players are the ones that won't let you access the egg, I'd take it up with that company (seems to be only one manufacturer not suopporrting 4 digits) and ask for a f/w update to fix it.

OK, I changed all my votes to neutral. A note to the effect that this doesn't work on all players would be nice, though!

Panasonic probably takes the position that their HDTV's are perfect and don't need calibration...

What rules violation?

All the submissions for these Eggs i saw indicated they were found in magazines.  No evidence was presented by the submitter that he verified them personally (i'm not casting aspersions, just noting what i did/didn't see in the notes).

Konrad actually tested it and it didn't work.  His No vote was quite valid.

If i cared at all about Easter Eggs i'd have tested them before voting Yes and would have voted No if i couldn't get them to work.

Pick up a Sony movie on Blu-ray. Open the case. Look at the inserts. Read the inserts.

For kicks, I grabbed Hollow Man and Cruel Intentions off my shelf.

They (as do all sony titles) have a tri-folded insert. the third panel reads....

Quote:
Optimize your Blu-ray Experience
Use the HDMI connection to mazimize your high definition picture and audio
try the
Picture Claibration Easter Egg
available on every SPHE Blu-ray disc -
from the menu simply type
SONY (7669)
on your remote control.
Compatible with the PlayStation 3 System

then in smaller print

"To ensure the best possible viewing experience, your Blu-ray disc player may require a firmware or software upgrade. Please consult your hardware manufacturer's website for the latest version available"

So, even SPHE is telling you how to access the "Easter Egg" and you're going to vote no because your player's manufacturer screwed up by not allowing you to access what IS on the disc?

Unreal.

If i had a machine that failed to play the Egg i'd have voted No because the instructions as provided in the profile update would not work.  I wouldn't have read inserts or done other research because it's an Easter Egg and doesn't really matter.

But based on the evidence at hand, the failure to work on my machine, i could vote No without it being a Rules violation.  I'd be voting in good faith and that is not a Rules violation.

I'd also be open to other views and to adjusting my vote based on evidence such as you have provided.

You are correct in that if if does not work for you your vote would be valid. However, others voting no without trying it should not vote be voting no if others are saying it does work. This is my whole point.

Edit: I'd also like to see updated notes that show what players thiese eggs work in. So far we known that Sony and Samsung players work and Pansonic doesn't. I'd be interest to see what other models do or don't do.

I can understand your reasoning behind wanting to know what players support this disc feature and which ones don't, but at the same time I think it's above and beyond the point of DVDP and this database.  We're supposed to be profiling the disc itself and the contents on it.  Sony discs have a specific easter egg that display a calibration screen when you type in "7669" from the main menu.

It's there, it's on the disc.

Whether your particular player allows you to access it is irrelevant to the profile in DVDP.  We are profiling the discs and their content, not what players let you access it.

If that were the case, are we supposed to start breaking down Blu-ray profile 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 disc Special Features and listing the specific players these features work in?  I sure hope not.  We just list the features as they are on the disc and if your player supports it, then you can access it.

I would see the Profile 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 as a slightly different situation... That is potentially mentioned on the cover somewhere accordingly (at least for the time being).

Easter Eggs are a different beast, as they are not advertised anywhere. So, if someone adds an "unmarked" Easter Egg for a Toshiba player and I try it on my PS3 and find it's not working, then I would contribute this as not working. Ping Pong ensues.

I agree with New Englander again, that if the Easter Egg itself is Sony-only, then it should be marked as such.
