I don't know, don't have any off those.   I think it has something to do with this:

I think I saw some of these so-called HD DVD's at this used place I go to, called Buy Backs.

The format whose death guaranteed me over a hundred high def movies dirt cheap, while the Blu-ray owners have to pay four or five times as much for every single disc.

Well enjoy the limited supply while you can!

I think I might actually have a couple of those old Betamax tapes around somewhere....if only I could find something to play them on!

You could place them on your phono deck and watch them go around and around  , but I wouldn't guarantee the quailty of the video, the audio might be a bit hit and miss as well

Or you could donate them to your local Clay Pigeon shooting club (I think you Americans call it "Skeet") for target practise.

I myself have over 100 HD-DVD Discs and have to say the the picture is in most cases better than the one on the 30 or so Blu Rays I watched thus far.

Still, like with Betamax. The better system lost.

But this time Sony bought the victory with cold hard cash ( Half a Million?)

I heard that Sony paid Warner 400 Million $ to drop HD-DVD.

I am not sure how soon they get that money back. I guess it will take 'em a while.

But still better than what the whole HD-DVD Adventure cost Toshiba. Which was a cool Billion $.

I read the article. Sure maybe they will produce a better picture. Don't upscaling DVD Players do that already?
Also: One of the main advantages of Blu Ray is the Sound. I for one only buy Blu Ray's (or in the past HD-DVD's) that have Dolby True HD or DTS HD Sound.
The article said nothing about sound and I am pretty sure that you can't make a regular DTS or Dolby track better. Like DD works at 640 kbps. Dolby True HD at 18 mbps. How are they gonna do that with the limited capacity.

Or maybe all this is moot because the article is a fake?

Really?

Maybe it's just me but I find that extremely selective. I would never leave my favourite movies on the storeshelf just because the blu-ray release didn't have some specific sound options. I suppose, then, that the releases without those you mentioned are only a little minority?

Sorry for OT.

Most new releases on Blu, well actually all of them, feature some sort of HD Sound. I very much doubt that you can replicate that quality with the new toshiba format.
Also if you check the prices of blu Ray Discs on amazon.com you will see that they are now about as cheap as DVD's. So there is really no need for that new format.

PS: I sent "Triple X" the Blu Ray back to amazon because it only had regular DD Sound. Just FYI
