| Posted: | | | | The upcoming version 3.5 includes revamped support for film rating systems. Ratings are no longer restricted in number, or by alignment to the US' MPAA ratings. Additionally, a description is available per rating, and the ratings have an age value that will help align various ratings for comparison. There also may be multiple ratings system per locality.
So, if the current ratings in DVD Profiler aren't up to snuff in your locality, now's the time to let us know. Note that corrections to these do not require a program update, so we can also correct/enhance these later as needed.
NR and Adult are automatically included as available options and are not listed for each locality.
As an example, here's the new ratings section for the US:
<Locality Description="United States" ID="0">
<Ratings Description="Film"> <Rating Name="G" Description="All Ages Admitted" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="PG" Description="Parental Guidance Suggested" Age="10"/> <Rating Name="PG-13" Description="Parents Strongly Cautioned" Age="13"/> <Rating Name="R" Description="Restricted" Age="17"/> <Rating Name="NC-17" Description="No one 17 and under admitted" Age="18"/> </Ratings>
<Ratings Description="Television"> <Rating Name="TV-Y/TV-G" Description="Suitable for all ages" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="TV-Y7" Description="Unsuitable for children under 7" Age="7"/> <Rating Name="TV-PG" Description="Unsuitable for younger children, and pre-teenagers until asking their parents" Age="12"/> <Rating Name="TV-14" Description="Unsuitable for children under 14" Age="14"/> <Rating Name="TV-MA" Description="Adults Only" Age="18"/> </Ratings>
</Locality>
There's no need to put the ratings info into this format, a simple list or a note of any particular error or omission in the current ratings will work. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative | | | Last edited: by Ken Cole |

Like (for example): <Locality Description="Canada" ID="3"> <Ratings Description="Film"> <Rating Name="G" Description="Suitable for all ages" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="PG" Description="Parental Guidance Advised" Age="10"/> <Rating Name="14A" Description="Persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult" Age="14"/> <Rating Name="18A" Description="Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult" Age="17"/> <Rating Name="R" Description="Admittance restricted to people 18 years of age or older" Age="18"/> </Ratings> <Ratings Description="Television"> <Rating Name="C" Description="Suitable for children under the age of 8" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="C8" Description="Suitable for children ages 8 and over" Age="8"/> <Rating Name="G" Description="Suitable for all ages" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="PG" Description="Parental Guidance Advised" Age="10"/> <Rating Name="14+" Description="Persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult" Age="14"/> <Rating Name="18+" Description="Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult" Age="17"/> </Ratings> </Locality> Canada has a separate Home Video rating system, from which the Film system is actually derived. The only difference with the home video system is that it also includes an "exempt" designation. Also: <Locality Description="Canada (Quebec)" ID="19"> <Ratings Description="Film"> <Rating Name="G" Description="Visa général" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="13+" Description="13 ans+" Age="13"/> <Rating Name="16+" Description="16 ans+" Age="16"/> <Rating Name="18+" Description="18 ans+" Age="18"/> </Ratings> <Ratings Description="Television"> <Rating Name="G" Description="Visa général" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="8+" Description="8 ans+" Age="8"/> <Rating Name="13+" Description="13 ans+" Age="13"/> <Rating Name="16+" Description="16 ans+" Age="16"/> <Rating Name="18+" Description="18 ans+" Age="18"/> </Ratings> </Locality> I am not an expert on this: this information comes from here and here and I may have mis-interpreted something, although I don't think so. Edit: Found a reference to television ratings in Canada here although I haven't found a good primary reference yet ... | | | -fred | | | Last edited: by FredLooks |

I am just glad you didn't think of calling me on the phone and just start singing when I answered! Whoops! Note to self... If Skip pops up on the caller id... do not answer! | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | For the time being here are the current UK Ratings as defined at HereU Suitable for All Ages "1"> Uc Suitable for All Ages "1"> PG Parental Guidence No Defined Age given 12 Suitable for 12 years and over "12"> (can be under 12yrs with accomp. adult) 12A As above + nobody under 12 permitted to view 15 Suitable for 15 years and over "15"> 18 Suitable for Adults Only "18"> Steve Edit TV Ratings. As of yet I have not been able to find any Rating system for UK TV. Over here there is a form of Gentleman's agreement between companies that content will be shown at times suitable to what is considered "Bedtimes" for children of certain ages. ie mild swearing etc not before 7PM stronger swearing / nudity not before 9PM as for full nudity (only available on PPV Satellite Channels). | | | Last edited: by snarbo |
