Since when is the Digital Copy disc added to the Disc Info section in DVD Profiler? There is no Disc ID and it can't be "played" on your PC unless you first download it. When you insert the disc in your DVD-ROM drive, DVD Profiler won't recognize it and jump to the title, so what's the point?

The reason I'm asking is that there is currently a Profile up for vote for Rambo that includes Digital Copy in the Disc Info section of the profile.

I would say it is a legitimate Other Feature if it is part of the original purchase deal, but that's as far as it goes. It shouldn't be in the Disc Info section if it can't have a Disc ID (in the same way bonus CDs shouldn't be)

I agree. If it doesn't have valid DVD data and a disc ID can't be assigned then it just doesn't belong in the disc info section at all.

I can see it as other features, but like you, don't think it should be in the disc info section.

Since you're talking about my contribution:
I added the digital copy to the Disc Info section just like the approved contribution of AVP: Requiem (024543-508182).
I did have my doubts, but will leave it to the voters

Locally, I have added the Digital Copy disc to the disc info section, because it is a DVD, not a CD. I have no strong opinion on this, and can understand the arguments against it as well.

Within the features section, it should be ticked as DVD-ROM, because that is exactly what it is. It doesn't matter if the Digital Copy files are located on a separate disc or not.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just submitted a contribution for AVP: Requiem removing the Digital Copy from the Disc ID section.

The way I read the contribution rules regarding Disc IDs, this info, while perhaps useful for some, does not belong in the Disc ID section of the profile. If you wish to track this info keep it local.

I agree with Goodguy, but I do not leave them local - whenever doing a new contribution I add them as disc 2 with "Digital Copy" in the description field. As Goodguy, I view it as a DVD, and therefor IMO it should be entered into the "Discs" section of DVDProfiler.

I will not vote NO to any changes made, but I would like to see a clarification in the rules regarding how to handle digital copies.

And to sign off - in the words of Bigdaddyhorse; DEATH to digital copies...

That is totally against the rules as they are currently written.

From What to Contribute:

"DVD Video, HD-DVD Video, and Blu-ray Video" discs (including MiniDVD): These discs contain movies, television shows, music performances and other professionally-produced and sold DVDs. No CDs, DVD-Audio discs, video games, Video CDs, or VHS titles will be accepted.
“DVD Video”: These discs, included as bonus discs with CDs or video games are accepted, but only contribute the DVD Video information.
Dual-Disc DVDs (which store both “DVD Video” and “DVD Audio” information): These can be contributed, but include “DVD Video” information only.

You can "view it as a DVD" all you want but these Digital Copy discs are NOT DVDs nor do they have Disc IDs. They contain absolutely no DVD Video information...zip...zero and therefore are not to be entered IMO.

We need a clarification from Ken or Gerri on this matter before it gets out of hand.

I agree with Max on this.  We only profile discs that contain "DVD Video, HD-DVD Video, and Blu-ray Video".  If it doesn't, it should not be entered.

God help us if we're going to start cataloging data disks that just happen to be distributed on the DVD format.  That's all these digital copies really are.  With this logic, it won't be long before we start seeing profiles for Windows Vista showing up.

Just for clarification, if i read it correct you can profile bonus dvd's coming with CD's?

For example Thirce: If we could only see us now
This contains a CD with 7 songs and a 107 minute documentary, some questions

Are there some rules attached:
• Do you use the CD's UPC and artwork?
• Do you use the CD's overview? (tracklist)
• Should you have CD/DVD in the edition field?
• do you add CD as a bonus feature?
• Do you use the CD's title, what if the DVD has it's own title, do you use original title?

I hope someone can answer this because then i have a number of disc i can profile,

Thanks,
Paul

The answer is in the rule you quoted, "only contribute the DVD Video information."  To me, that means you only contribute the information associated with the DVD.

I agree... it should only be about the DVD itself. None of the info from the CD would be put into the profile.
