I noticed someone submitted the removal of Special Edition Crew data in some Star Wars profiles.
Apart from any other consideration, I don't think it's a good policy to change and change again, take them in, take them out, and so on.

However, those contributions are getting both YES and NO votes, and the Screeners will decide what is right and what is wrong for the online database. So be it.
Personally I will accept any decision from the Screeners, whatever they decide.
If the Screeners do accept the removal, I will not contribute other special or restoration crew anymore, and will vote neutral on any further removals.

BUT I just hope that others will accept Screeners' decisions as well, and if the Screeners do NOT accept these removals, they will not try again and again removing special or restoration crew in other profiles.

What do you say?

You miss the point again, enry.<shakes head> I believe I have addressed thsi point elsewhere already. This was brought up by another user, and I had completely forgotten about the poll results when they were included else i would have voted No instead of yes, and since the Contributor did not include that information for Gerri's reference, which clearly says users don't want it. The data foir that poll has now been provided and Gerri can make an informed decision, whichever way she chooses to go will give us the answer.

But you must create a controversy where none exists, this is an attempt to find an answer. nothing more or less.

Precisely my point. I'm glad you agree to consider that decision as a precedent, whatever the answer.

So why create the controversy, Enry. Are you attempting to stack the deck. The poll speaks for itself and Gerri can now supply an answer. Let her do it. The poll results speak for themselves.

I just would like that we don't go on changing. Whichever decision is better than ping-pongs.
So, I say, whatever the decision by Gerry, we accept it. I hope that you and others agree with that, so that will settle the issue now and for ever.

A poll is just a poll and doesn't overide the Screeners.
However, even the Screeners may contradict themselves sometimes.
That's why I am saying that you and I (and others), of our own will, accept this decision by the Screeners as a precedent that settles any controversy.

getting a yes or no from any user(s) will not matter... until it is clear in the rules it will always come up... and you will always have users agreeing and disagreeing.... even after it is in the rules.  (I know there is many rules I don't personally agree with)... but once something is in the rules then we have it one way. no matter who agrees or disagrees.

The part I put in bold is the exact reason I personally would never accept a profile going through as a decision. There is only 2 things I see acceptable of knowing what Invelos wants.

1. Something added to the Rules
2. A statement here in the forum from Ken/Gerri

Anything shy from the 2 above I would not see as anything definite to solve this or any other matter.

You are absolutely correct, nevertheless we can decide of our own will to accept a certain decision. Why should we do that? Because, in the absence of a clear rule, a conventional agreement is far better than ping-pongs. And an agreement based on a decision of the Screeners is better than nothing.

But what I am saying is you can not stop the ping pongs like that. For every person that will agree to such a thing you can have another... or even 2 or 3 that will not agree to such a thing.

There is too many people with strong feelings on either side of any argument around here for such a thing to work. and you can not force people to go by any type of user convention when only a significantly small portion of the userbase comes to these forums. You can not force people to agree, contribute and vote on one spacific user convention. If it is not in the rules a certain way... or if Ken/Gerri doesn't make a public statement then each and every person is welcome to try to put something through and see if people want it or not.

I remember just recently reading a thread (forget the thread now) that Hal tried to bring up a user convention and he was told the same basic thing.

The removal of certain elements of the cast & crew by users being anal are exactly the reason why I more and more shy away from contributing changes to the online.

You call it being anal. I call it following the rules, which are silent on such data, which means don't do as you WANT. I am trying to roundabout method method to get an answer, we will see.

How can one follow rules on something, when they are silent on that something?

Interestingly enough, one of the arguments in that thread was that because the screeners had accepted profiles, that it must be OK.

I'd say an long standing user convention carries more weight than acceptance of a profile or two by the screeners.

That's not to say that user convention carries the same weight as a written Rule, but lacking anything to the contrary, user convetion, especially over a very long time frame, should carry some weight in our decision-making process.
