| Posted: | | | | When I attempt to back up my collection list I get a message that says:
Can't create file C:\backup.dpb
Is this a known issue? I am running Windows Vista (it worked with XP)
Pleas help if you can. |

| Posted: | | | | No, backups are always possible (tested it myself on my second Linux PC). I'd say Lars is right. Vista prevents access to this part of your HDD. | | | Deutsches DVD Profiler Forum: www.dvdprofiler-forum.de |

Ahhh...gotta luv Vista . I do - I was always too lazy to lock my XP down like this, and several programs where so badly designed they wouldn't run if you tried - now all us bad and/or lazy programmers actually have to get it right! | | | Regards Lars | | | Last edited: by lmoelleb |

| Posted: | | | | Creating files off the root is nothing new. It started back in Win2k. You had to be a member of the admin group to create files from the root. It is actually a good thing. Glad it is now working for you. |

| Posted: | | | | Most PC's these days if not all, have their Hard drives partitioned,, or even a second harddrive installed, - as they are fairly inexpensive for an 80 GB or smaller/ larger is the best way to go when saving your data to another drive. - So if your C: drive gets a nasty virus or to the point where the O/S has to be replaced with a fresh install,. It is not the best place to keep backups on the same drive as profiler lives there too I have extra drives on my Windows XP and on drive H: I have, (as an example),, 600 titles and the space required for that is only 222MB .. Each time you do a backup,, the profiller Invelos program remembers what drive and what folder to place the newest update. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Count me in as a Vista lover if it forces programmers to make their code design just a little better. I'm working as sysadmin in an environment with thousands of XP machines using hundreds of different software. All users use their computers with users rights, so tweaking ACLs to make some badly coded software to work with those limited user-rights is somehing you can't calll...mmm...fun |

Yeah specialy now that the drive is partioned in 2 or 3 logical drives, letting people believe the work on another physical harddrive. If that drive crashes all is gone including the backups on the other partition. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. I have my DVD Profiler database backed up in two places, 1st another physical HDD other than the physical HDD that the OS is on & second on a Flash Drive. Yes, hard drives die, this is why you need a sound backup strategy. If someone is too lazy or too uninformed about good backup practices, well that is possibly TOO BAD for them if disaster happens.
