| Posted: | | | | I wanted to ask for claification on the following: A while back someone was trying to edit the title of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" to make it read "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas" (717951-009395) and it got shot down stating that the title did NOT include Tim Burton's name. I am looking at a DVD in my collection that I feel should probably be edited to reflect the same issue but wanted to get clarification here before contributing the fix. The title is "Neil Simon's The Cheap Detective" (043396-903999). Why shouldn't this actually be "The Cheap Detective"? What would be different about this and the other listed above? Would someone be so kind as to set me straight on these? I am enclosing a cover shot for those who do not have this title so they can see what the cover actually looks like. | Posted: | | | | Based on that cover I would say it's "The Cheap Detective" since Neil Simon's is clearly a possessive. | | | Chris |

| Posted: | | | | Based on the rear cover for this title it would be "The Cheap Detective" because the Possessive is not included within the quotes of the title in the credit block. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

I will fix and contribute and see what happens.

| Posted: | | | | Now I am wondering why ... but here is what I found when I went to contribute title without Neil Simon in it:
Movie title is "The Cheap Detective" not Neal Simon's "Cheap " ".

I can not get my hands on this DVD right now to be able to look at the opening credits, but even if it is Neil Simon's "The Cheap Detective", shouldn't it be "The Cheap Detective" as the title and the original title could reflect Neil Simon in it? | | | Antec Nine Hundred case, 4GB A-Data DDR2 800 RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz, ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP MB, XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 video card, ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink, Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD, Zerodba 620W PSU, LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD with LightScribe SATA, Samsung CDDVDW SH-S203B SATA, Hanns-G HH281 28" monitor, Kodak ESP3250 printer, Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers, Windows 7 Professional | | | Last edited: by mwkirchner |

This is the Rule that applies. Neil Simon's is outside of the quote marks within the "credit block" on the back of the DVD, thereofre it is not part of the title. The opening credits do not matter. | | | Hal |

I would guess why it got declined before is because there were quotes around the title. The rules say not to include the quotes. | | | Chris |

| Posted: | | | | OK ... I will give this a try. I uploaded a new contribution WITHOUT quotes around the title and sans Neil Simon's. We shall see. The opening credits do not matter. But in my recent submisson for SE7EN, I wanted to use the name "SEVEN" which is in the credit block,, ( and the prior first editon of the same film had the Title SEVEN on the front cover/and within the credit block and the Disc ID also had the name seven in its encoded ID . You had voted No and said the following (for the Name change of Se7en to Seven) - " Only use of credit block is for possessives, not for original titles." ?? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. And I believe he was correct in doing so. The credit block is used for determining possessives. The title in the copyright notice, if available, is used for determining the original title. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Keep in mind, this was done prior to the possesive rule being added. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | you need to post the rear picture, not the front since it is the credit block on the rear cover that is used to determine whether or not the possessive is part of the title.
In this case it looks to me like it is, but I don't have the title. I'm just looking at the scan that's available. If I'm reading the credit block correctly it would be: "Clive Barker's The Plague" |

| Posted: | | | | The title for "The Plague" should include the Possessive "Clive Barker's" as the Possessive is clearly included within the quotes on the rear cover credit block. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

So what you're trying to say is that if the possessive appears like in the circled area in the pic below that it belongs in the title?? | | | Peter
