| Posted: | | | | Maybe of interest a list of baby double names. EDIT: In that list there is "Mary Jane" and other compound names with "Jean", not "Mary Jean" though . But you can find "Mary Jean" in this message board on babies. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

| Posted: | | | | Martin: If I might ask, why is this a question. Mary/Jean/ McAdams, unless you can document something else. Simple and does not waste time and energy. I did not llok at your "proof'. Mary Jean CAN be a double first but it is not automatic, it can be a a middle as well. So just document include the doc in your notes and go with whatever the answer is. I assume Mary Jane Bentley has something to do with McAdams, as i said i did not look. This stuff is all soooo simple. I don't get what the problem is. I don't understand why everything is so difficult for everyone, and iyt has to polled and discussed repetitiverly forever. This is easy, quit over thinking. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Martin, I did look at your links, and yes MJ does stand for Mary Jean. The constant use of MJ or Mary Jean on her official site does certainly suggest to me that she has a double-barrelled first name, so I would personally parse her name that way. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

Agree. jmbox: The Credit Lookup tool is a proof to show most commonly credited names in DVDP profiles and thus (supposedly) in film credits. BUT I daresay it proves nothing about the correct parsing. Generally speaking, parsing is not taken from the credits (well, maybe in a few occurrences) but from any available documentation. skip: Martin brought some proof of usage as double first name in Mary Jean // McAdams. It's not a birth certificate, but it's some evidence. Besides, there is no definitive proof it's a Middle name either. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not saying it was proof of the correct parsing, but majority rules for the common name.
There could be 100 profiles with Mary Jean/Mc/Adams and that would be the common name to use.
It's a lot less work to convert the smaller number of profiles to the larger than the other way around. |

Not quite, majority rules for the common name unless the majority can be shown to be inaccurate. In this case Martin has brought forward documentation that suggests Mary Jean//McAdams is the correct parsing, and if this is considered "good enough" then it would override the results of the Lookup tool, regardless of how much extra work it would involve. |

And if the number of wrongly parsed names is bigger than correctly, it does not mean we should consider not to change that. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | Sorry, but I can't understand why we should complicate this. So what if she uses "Mary Jean" and not just Mary. What do we gain by moving Jean to the same field as Mary? I can't understand it. Moving Jean to the first name field will also make it more difficult to get correct linking.
I'm sure the majority of the people that contribute (except some here in these forums) sees three names and puts one name in each field.
Why do we have to make everything so complicated? | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |
