| Posted: | | | | I am curious to know how it is decided that a movie is officially released with a slipcover. Is there some official source of information for this data? It has been my experience that some stores may sell a dvd with a slipcover, while others may not. Yet I have seen many rejections to proposed cover scans because the scans were not of a slipcover.
I guess my bottom line question is who gets to decide that a DVD has been released with a slipcover? |

| Posted: | | | | AFAIK it's the first release what is applicable. Mostly the 1st releases have a slip cover - later releases don't. The first and original release is relevant! IMHO if DVD's are sold with and without a slip cover at the same time, I would prefer the contribution including the slip cover! | Posted: | | | | Me . Actually, if on the official day of release I purchase a title that has a slipcover at Target, and you purchase the same title at KMART on the same day...Slipcover trumps no Slipcover. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | So it is the will of the masses then? I thought that there might be some super official database keeping track of those DVD's released with slipcovers. I was wondering if I could trouble you with a follow-up question along the same lines. For movies that have multiple re-issues, how do you find out what the original release was? Is it again just a matter of someone saying- "I bought this on release day" and therefore their scan governs? Or is there somewhere you can look this stuff up? |

| Posted: | | | | It's mainly a case of searching online and comparing release dates and covers. Review sites are usually good for this thing. And Amazon will usually list original issues and reissues side by side as long as a different UPC is used. Unfortunately reissues on the same UPC will overwrite the original issue on Amazon. |

| Posted: | | | | Sometimes it is helpful to visit the Homepage of the distributor for release details, not only packaging but also SRP, production year, release date, etc. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | we just need to be able to include multiple scans (w/ slip cover, w/o slip cover, rerelease, etc) and then let you choose the one you want to display and/or download to your database. yep, I opened that can of worms | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

| Posted: | | | | Keep your masterdatabase tidy! Multiple scans will not be very helpful. The better solution is IMO to keep the first release in the masterdatabase and if your DVD-Cover differs from this, feel free to change it locally and lock the images. that should suffice. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! I agree and disagree. I can do that. I agree that tidy is best, but I disagree as it is a master DVD database then as much info as possible should be in it. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

The same for me: I know what you mean and I think it's an interesting idea, just don't think it will be very helpful. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! It would be a visual history of the UPC code. Then we can see how some have been butchered and others just got uglier covers, with an opition to display whichever version you have. I don't have many re-issues, but it's a cool thought to have all the different covers there together. As for the pics in and out of slipcover, I'd say only when the artwork has major variantions between them. Most don't so this would just be redundant for them. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

| Posted: | | | | I agree, I don't see any point in having separate scans just because the barcode has moved slightly or the audio info is slightly higher. But I'd really like to see reissue cover scans available too. |

| Posted: | | | | The biggest problem lies in the fact that people tend to think that the existing (slip)covers are wrong because they differ from the ones they bought. An other problem is that the scans which appear in your online collection do not always reflect the covers you really have. Therefore I also think it would be a great idea if there was a possibility to contribute and select alternative scans. | | | Martin Zuidervliet
