First of all, also agree with the Blu-ray regions and HD audio requests below.

But, I'd like to see a few more aspect ratio choices in the program, with HD discs becoming more "mainstream" (a bit anyway) there are some 'new' ratios I'd like to see incorporated.

2.40:1 (this one is used on a lot of current DVDs, HD DVDs, and Blu-rays.)

2.39:1 (used on a lot of Disney BD discs, and this is the 100% correct ratio that replaced 2.35 -- long story).

2.4:1 (used on all Warner Home Video HD DVDs and Blu-rays).

1.77:1 (used here and there, Lions Gate for instance).

Thank you, don't want to "overwhelm" the program, but if I forgot any other commonly used ones, give them a mention below.

These two are the same.

And adding 2.40:1 makes sense, but I'm sure that adding 1.77:1 just adds confusion and is not really needed, as it is *very* close to 1.78:1. Same for 2.39:1, which would be very close to 2.40:1.

This one is just a chopped version of 1.777777777777 (16/9), which if properly rounded becomes 1.78

They're all close/rounded up, agreed, but this is mainly to avoid manually typing them for each 2.40:1, 2.4:1, and 2.39:1 release which are increasing in numbers.

At the very least 2.40:1 and 2.4:1 should be added due to their frequent use, IMO...

Sorry, but I do not see the point to have both of these as they are not close but exactly the same. Just as 2.400:1, 2.4000:1 etc. are. For consistancy 2.40:1 would be enough.

As SpaceFreakMicha pointed out, 2.4 and 2.40 is the same figure.

Do you guys own any HD discs?

Yes they are the same, but 2.4:1 (rounded value) can be a bit tricky to type into the Aspect Ratio box in the program.  And for db accuracy, all these ratios are used...  Not just: "2.40, close enough to 2.4:1 or 2.39:1."

Guess you still haven't made the HD plunge yet?    Many of the ones I've bothered to actually look for this (since I thought it was odd when I first noticed it) and several of the ones I own have 2.4:1 on the back.  But as has already been pointed out.. tomato, to-mah-to.. it's all the same.

Since this is an open field and we can type whatever we want into it, I'm not sure if it really matters what shows as available in the drop down box.  I've always thought of it as kind of like the Edition field where the drop down has some of the most common examples, but if it's not in there then you just type in what it's supposed to be.

The industry uses both, Skip.  But as Vega said, it is an open field box, just thought these would be nice as defaults due to their frequent usage.  2.20 is there but not 2.40!

As Arte used to say, Verrrrrry interesting. I have preceisely TWO HD/DVD Combos, one of which is not applicable, the other one I just picked up this morning and looked at the back...pardon my french...damn 2.4:1, Have I told you lately how much I HATE Hollywood.

I honestly can't tell when people are joking when it comes to the internet.  Somebody actually wants 2.4 as a dropdown when 2.40 already exists??

That's like some horribly geeky math pun or something.

It doesn't, nice try though.

And some people take this place (too, arguably) seriously, but feel free to be 'cool' and 'above' all that with such memorable quips as "horribly geeky math pun."

You may now resume your Power Rangers viewing.

Doh, thought 2.40 was already there.  If it's not then the whole thing is rather moot.  That being said, having them both in the list would be the mathematical definition of redundant, Power Rangers notwithstanding.

I agree that there's no point in having both listed.  I don't care how the packaging lists the aspect ratio, 2.40:1 is still equal to 2.4:1.  I honestly don't understand why we would want both listed.  In fact, I'm happy to just type in values.
