What title should be contributed for a 50 Movie Pack?

Now there are both
"War Classics - 50 Movie Pack",
and
"50 Movie Pack: Sci-Fi Classics",
and
"50 Mystery Classics: Collector's Edition".

Try and follow what's on the front as closely as possible - I don't know what these look like I can't help much more than that I'm afraid.

After doing some research, if these are the packs you're on about:
Mystery Classics
Sci-Fi Classics
Night Screams

...and so on.

Then I would say that the title is "War Classics", "Sci-Fi Classics" etc. and that the "50 Movie Pack" bit is an edition, not part of the title.

One more question: when it comes to adding all the discs to a "50 Movie Pack" profile, what would you write as Description?
Or just leave it blank?
Each "50 Movie Pack" includes 12 double-sided discs, with a couple of movies on each side.

I can't help you with that I'm afraid as I don't have any discs like that so I don't know how they've been profiled in the past.
Are the discs numbered in any way? It might be best simply to put "disc 1", "disc 2" etc.

In a case ("SciFi Classics"), the contributor added the discs, and left the Description field blank.
But I don't know if that can be regarded as a standard.

There was apparently no standard in the titles. See my first message, on how three "50 Movie Packs" are listed in the DVDP database.

Yes, the discs are numbered. That may be a good idea. Though, when you add a disk, it's already automatically numbered #1, #2 etc. Hmm...

Take a look at one called "John Wayne: 20 Movie Pack" in my collection.  Do your 50 pack the same way, as the only difference is the total number of movies.  Layout is the same.

I see the light!

One minor note: I would change the local Sort Title of the four discs so that they are listed just after their box set.

Of course you realize that Sort Title is purely local.  I don't always follow the conventional way of doing things when it comes to sorting.

Of course it is. Still, it also affects your Online collection sorting, where the child elements [John Wayne: Disc 01, Disc 02, Disc 03, Disc 04] are not automatically grouped together with their parent [the John Wayne 20 Movie Pack, #328] as they are in the local view.

So it happens that the Online collection shows another title [#329] in between the parent and its childs...:

John Wayne: 20 Movie Pack [328]
John Wayne DVD Collection: Special DVD 5 Volume Set [329]
John Wayne: Disc 01
John Wayne: Disc 02
John Wayne: Disc 03
John Wayne: Disc 04

Neither do I.

It doesn't sort that way in my database though.  In box sets with multi-episode/movie discs such as this (also for TV seasons) I don't number the discs themselves, only the master.  In box sets where there are single movies on one disc each, I do number the disc profiles, but not the master.

The sorting however, can be set up so everything sorts in relation to the set it belongs to.  It all depends on how you set up the sort name.

Rifter:

I am now editing the child profiles for each disc in the "War Classics 50 Movie Pack" collection, trying to stick to your "John Wayne: 20 Movie Pack" profile.

I still have a few questions though.

1. Title. There is already a parent profile in the DVDP Database, and the title there is "War Classics - 50 Movie Pack", no edition. So, I guess I should leave the same title for the child profiles, such as "War Classics - 50 Movie Pack: Disc 01", and so on. Or should I change the parent profile title to "War Classics", edition: "50 Movie Pack", that being the only change to the profile?

2. Edition. If you use "xx Movie Pack" as Edition for "John Wayne"'s parent profile, why not for child profiles as well?

3. Case. The "War Classics 50 Movie Pack" consists of 12 discs in a cardboard box ("Slipcase"?); each disc comes in a cardboard sleeve ("Envelope"?). Is your JW:20MP case somewhat different than that?

4. Cover. As to the cover images for each child profile, should I scan the box (same image for both the parent profile and all child profiles), or should I scan each envelope?

5. Overview. There are four movies in each double-sided disc. In the Overview section of each disc profile, I am copying the overviews from the envelope and also adding a few essential details (like Color / B/W and Production Year), like your overviews of the John Wayne 20MP discs. Does that sound right?

6. Genre. It's a "War Classics" collection (even if there are other Genre elements in some titles), so guess the Genre I ticked?

So I don't have to do a ton of formatting, I will just insert my answers after your question in bold.

If its the same UPC, you can leave it as is, or put in a change on the title.  If they ever put out another such pack of war movies - say 25 - then it would be more properly in the Edition field.

2. Edition. If you use "xx Movie Pack" as Edition for "John Wayne"'s parent profile, why not for child profiles as well?

We never have before.  I don't think anybody ever brought it up. Besides, the Edition refers
to the whole unit, the child only deals with one disk.

3. Case. The "War Classics 50 Movie Pack" consists of 12 discs in a cardboard box ("Slipcase"?); each disc comes in a cardboard sleeve ("Envelope"?). Is your JW:20MP case somewhat different than that?

It is a double thick keepcase with 2 discs in each side as I recall.  Doesn't really matter, just name it accordingly.

4. Cover. As to the cover images for each child profile, should I scan the box (same image for both the parent profile and all child profiles), or should I scan each envelope?

Use the front/rear images from the parent slip case for the front/back for each child, per the rules.

5. Overview. There are four movies in each double-sided disc. In the Overview section of each disc profile, I am copying the overviews from the envelope and also adding a few essential details (like Color / B/W and Production Year), like your overviews of the John Wayne 20MP discs. Does that sound right?

Yup.  For the child profiles, use Disc ID, and include a simple episode/movie list with a short synopsis.  Use dividers to separate cast and crew for each movie for that disc, with the 'x. name' format for both the dividers and the list in the Overview area.  Pretty sure that's how I did it on JW.

6. Genre. It's a "War Classics" collection (even if there are other Genre elements in some titles), so guess the Genre I ticked?

Personally, I hate multiple genres.  I try to pick the most accurate one and just use the one.

Cover: I guess this Rule applies in my case...

Indeed, I only picked "War".

Still some minor details!

Is it "Disc 1" or "Disk 1"?
Do we have a standard here?
It's "Disk 1" on the envelope.

Besides, as I said, they are double-sided discs with two movies on each side.
How about using film titles as disc description, in this special case, just like we do with Episodes in TV series?

For instance

Disc 4 Side A:
Description: Captain Scarlet / The Last Chance
Disc ID: 0C6AE07BBBC02911 [WAR_MPACK_DISC04A]

Disc 4 Side B:
Description: The Buckwashers / This is the Army
Disc ID: B3C45D4BDBBCE771 [WAR_MPACK_DISC04B]

and so on...
