Just want to clarify a small point before I pull any contribution made recently:

If a DVD title states Widescreen on the front jacket as well as  2 Disc Special Directors Edition, we are allowed to use these Terms ., BUt if a disc has nothing on the front jacket but has a  banner across the back of the DVD...........
The rules state this:

The title for a Box Set should be the title listed on the Front Cover; for example Alien Quadrilogy.

BUT-- edition states-
Edition
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition). It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.

wouldn't dist trait mean either front or back  where the Title is front only??

No, Especially when you are trying to REPLACE the dist trait from the front with YOUR version. Terry, I am sorry you are well known for this kind of stuff.

I have a question for you Terry, why are you always trying to wiggle YOUR version of data under the door, do what you want locally.

Actually, if you're talking about the "Edition" field, then yes, the information can come from anywhere on the cover: front, back or side.
The title however, can only come from the front.

Edit: just seen Skip's post - if you're replacing one edition with another, I'd say the one on the front takes precedence over anywhere else on the cover.

Well no,, there is nothing on the front to replace... I am simply pulling the edition or dist trait from rear and using that.. Like the Legacy series doesn't state anything about 2 disc or wide screen info on the front jacket only the rear, and the North to Alaska and Journey Centre of the Earth says nothing on the front only wide screen gold banner across top on the rear.. so I am not trying to replace anything  only adding to.. and the rules for Title says front Only but Edition just says The Box period.

Over.....

Universal Legacy Series is an edition...it is on the front, and you atrying to load it up with whta YOU think is crap from the back. LEAVE IT ALONE.

Or in one case, it is Legacy Series: Special Edition which you are ALSO trying to replace. It doesn't fly Terry. Keep it LOCAL

It would help if you told us what profiles you are updating so we can see the front and back covers.  Absent that information, YES, you can take the edition from anywhere on the case.

Skip, we're not talking about the title, we're talking about the edition field.

And widescreen, from those descriptions I haven't a clue which DVDs you're on about
so I can't say whether I agree with your contribution or not.

OK, I've just looked at the existing profiles and they all look fine as they are.
I've no idea what changes you're proposing, but the only one I could see that you could maybe make a change to is "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", as there is nothing on the front cover, so if you wanted to, you could add "Widescreen Edition"

Edit: sorry, same goes for North to Alaska

If you really wanted to you could add that info to the edition, so you'd end up with "Legacy Series: 2-Disc Special Edition" (and variants thereof) on them.
But I wouldn't say the current profile is wrong, so I don't see an urgent need to change them.

Did that already got this type of rebutals from five members:

Existing information from the FRONT cover is Correct
The rear cover is never used...
Existing edition is correct
Front cover does not list that Edition.
Front cover should be used

So please reread my opening question above to verify this complaint .

It is an awkward situation - certainly they are wrong in saying that you can only use the front, but on the other hand, just because you can use the back, doesn't mean you have to.
I would say the only way you could justify adding the "2 disc" information is if Universal had released single-disc "Legacy" editions. Otherwise, I'd leave them as is.
