| Posted: | | | | Came across this site by accident when I could not update my Version 2.4 nor get access to My Profiler. After digging into the site I am extremely dissapointed by the direction that DVD Profiler is headed.
I have used DVD Profiler for a few years and it is the best program out there for documenting your DVD collection. but this new direction where you must pay to make the program work, completely sucks. What happened to the two versions, a free version and another with all the 'Bells and whistles'? I realize people need to make money and a good product requires good people to maintain it but this complete change from a free version (2.4) to a Crippled Version (3.0) is disappointing.
Now I would consider buying a registration key but I have been burned on several occasions when I purchased a "lifetime" registration only to either have the program discontinued or change to a charge per version upgrade. With this current change discontinuing the Free version, their is no guarantee that invelos will honour lifetime registrations. Maybe in six months they will decide they are not getting enough money and make people pay for every upgrade.
Just Another Money Grab. Very Dissappointed. |

And since it's late here, let me be ornery and say if you don't like it, leave.
This is a new company, and it's doing its best.
Trolls.... sheesh. |

I am disappointed in you. How do you expect a company to besuccessful when you refuse toi support it. How do you do that? If you like the Program, you pay for it. You'll get no sympathy from me, nor I suspect from many other users, If Ken decides in six months to make us pay for upgrades, I will gladly do so, it's the best program out there for this purpose. Ken does this full-time now, he quit his day job two years ago to devote his energy to the program. Why would you deprive him of the ability to make some money, freeloader. Like I said you'll get no sympathy from me.

Skip cheers - download the program, try it - if you like it... buy it. thats the way things work in this world... you need to support the things you like as a consumer, otherwise they'll be gone. | | | -JoN |

I don't understand your problem, ver 3.0 has full functionality if you own less than 50 DVDs. If you can't come up with the money to spend $30, how could you afford any more DVD's than 50?
I would gladly pay for upgrades around here, I can't possibly imagine how Ken is going to come up with enough innovation to create a ver 4.0 when ver 3 does more than I could have imagine. But I look forward to many more. And if he decides to charge for it, I will gladly pay for it. I've already gotten more than my money's worth as is. | | | The Other DVD Forum Why do people who know the least know it the loudest? |

| Posted: | | | | I go to work 5 days a week and grab so much money that my employer does me a favor by depositing it straight into my checking account twice a month. If they didn't do that, I'm sure all of the money would be quite heavy for me to carry home each day. I grab so much money that I'm able to pay my mortgage and give to the money grabbers at the grocery store. I think money grabbing is great! You should try it sometime. You wouldn't believe the amount of money that's been grabbed from me in exchange for all of the DVDs I have, but I was able to save just a little of my grabbed money to pay the grabbers for DVD Profiler back in 2002. They were so grateful for the money they grabbed from me that they gave me 3.0 for free. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | You said you "used it for a few years" I am going to safely assume it was the free version of 2.4 that was being mentioned? Were you using the free version those "few years" or did you pay for the "best program out there?"
You can't blame them for charging for the program, it's how a developer makes a living. The program is really worth it's weight in gold!
Regarding the 'lifetime' guarentee, what lasts forever for $30? Pay for upgrades? Why is that a problem if you get something better?
For example, If someone were to purchase 'Spider-Man 2' later on down the line they cannot expect to get 'Spider-man 2.1' for free; because they bought the first version! The first version still works! You don't have to HAVE the second version if you don't want the upgrades... (differences)
I support this program because it's worth it! Would I pay for updates in the future, if I had to?! Hell yeah! BAM!!! | | | "It's gonna be pee-pee pants city here real soon!"—Negan |

That raises an interesting question. Ken, just how much does the program weigh? | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

That raises an interesting question. Ken, just how much does the program weigh? There are two ISO approved measurement procedures: 1) Print the source onto standard paper (80g/m^2) and weigh it. 2) print the binaries onto standard paper (80g/m^2) and weigh it. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

Just Another Money Grab. Very Dissappointed. Just think if you'd bothered to pay for it 'all those years ago' you'd be into a good chunk of your free 'lifetime' updates. Besides anybody who believes life = life when used to sell products (or set jail terms) is naive at best. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

The free versions are the same locally, the current free version has: "Unlimited collection size, no ads, no time limits, no nag screens". For paying for upgrades, i've been using DVD Profiler for about 3 years with one payment. Which is pretty damn long, considering the change that has happened to the program in that time period. If you buy DVD Profiler its a one time fee, if Ken will charge for future upgrades, those would be most likely plugins, or some other program features. Which are not required to be bought, for example the Mobile version. I personally would be more then willing to pay for a Linux version. | | | Last edited: by whispering |
