So there are two profiles up for vote. One adds aspect ratios to the box set profile and the other takes away aspect ration info. Both have votes and none are negative for the adding or removing of this info. I could be wrong but I thought that we were not supposed to put this info in the main profile but let the child profiles have it. The current rules don't mention Video Format at all on the Box Set page.

The first profile is:

The Best of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello: Volume 3 [025192-492723]

It removes and is explictly stated in the note that this contribution is removing video format per rules.

The second is:

The Films of Alejandro Jodorowsky [013137-600296]

The notes say explicitly that this is contribution is adding the video format aspect ratio info.

So which is it?

This is what the rule says:

If the Box Set has a rating, use it in the profile. If it does not, use NR as the rating.
Exception: If any disc in the set is rated Adult, list the set as Adult

That tells me that, for the rating to be included in the parent profile, it must be on the Box Set packaging.  If it isn't, then should be NR...not blank.

Unicus was this posted in the right thread?  I am talking about video formats and aspect ratios. Not ratings.

Yes it was, and I had a different answer, but when I reread my answer, my brain though ratings and not aspect ratio so I changed it.  I am tired, leave me alone.

Anyway, my original answer was...

This is the rule that should cover it:

In addition to the above, the following are not included on the box set profile: Subtitles, Audio & Disc Features. List them with the individual profiles.

For some reason, video formats and aspect ratios weren't included...don't know why.

Also makes it hard when submitters are removing/changing things and reffereing to rules that are not there. I could have sworn that it was in the rules but I just looked at the rules at the old site and they are the same. Maybe it was a change that was never updated in the rules? Either way it makes it hard to vote. I  voted no to the Jodorsky set because one ratio was listed as Anamorphic Widescreen 1.33:1. There are also three different ratios in the set. Non-Anamorphic 1.66:1, Full Frame 1.33:1 and Anamorphic 2.35:1. Which is why it should just be left blank.

Correct me if I'm wrong but with the 2.xx versions you HAD to enter an aspect ratio and video format in a box set parent profile otherwise the contribution wouldn't upload for approval - perhaps that's why it was not excluded in the rules.

Since it appears that with 3.0 you don't need to have the A/R and format in the parent profile it makes more sense to me to have them only in the child profiles given that many box sets have titles with differing A/R's.

That is true you had to at least put in Widescreen or Full Frame.

In 2.4/2.5 you did NOT have to enter an AR, you did have to select a format (one of the checkboxes)

I see no point in not adding aspect ratio and video format to the parent profile, if (and only if) those are the same for the complete box set.

There is a reason and it's called consistency.

Sure, there's no reason not to when it's the same across all the child profiles.  There's also no reason to not enter the audio tracks if they're the same across all the child profiles.  Same for rating, features and just about everything else.

But when it comes to cast/crew, there's a very good reason not to add the common cast/crew from the child profiles.  For example in a Cary Grant box set, if Cary Grant is in the three child profiles and you add him to the parent as well, that throws off the name linking feature.  Click on Cary Grant and you see him in the three movies, plus the parent.

So it was decide not to list cast/crew in the parent profile, just the children.  And if you're going to have that rule, you should be consistent and keep things simple and not add any of the other information either.  After all, the box set really doesn't have an aspect ratio since it's just a container that doesn't represent an actual film.  It really adds little to no value.

I think it would be best to add the Video Formats to the not to be included list of Box Sets together with Release and Production Studios.

the aspect ratio verbiage has fallen out of the rules, which i'm looking at in another tab. was that intentional? Ken, are you at home?

I don't think it belongs any more than the audio info belongs.

I'm not sure I'm reading this right.  If you're talking about release date, I can't agree with you.  A box can't really have an aspect ratio.  The discs contained in the box do, but not the box itself.  But the box (or collection of movies) certainly does have a release date.

I am certainly shocked Skip didn't see this.

Remove the Studios field...? No, No, that is still needed for the Distribution Company...

Release...? Agreeing with Mark.

Other than that, I have continuously stripped more and more stuff out of my Box Set parent profiles, as it messes up my statistics...
