| Posted: | | | | Going trough my Collection i came across a small Cuba problem On most Cover Scans of the movies i have it sais: Cuba Gooding, Jr. but when i look at cast it sais Cuba Gooding Jr. On the other hand there are a few other movies where he is mentioned as Cuba Gooding, Jr. again. At IMDB he is called Cuba Gooding Jr. without any "Credited As Cuba Gooding, Jr." mentioned, on Wikipedia they call him Cuba Gooding, Jr. etc. etc. So what should it be: 1. Cuba Gooding, Jr. credited as Cuba Gooding Jr. 2. Cuba Gooding Jr. credited as Cuba Gooding, Jr.? 3. Cuba Gooding, Jr. (no "credited as") 4. Cuba Gooding Jr. (no "credited as") 5. None of the Above I have a lot of movies with him in it, so i need to have a verdict before i make any changes | | | Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: 'WOW What a Ride!!! |

Ken has suggested he is looking at a web-based search facility of the whole database so that the most common name variant can be estabished to be used as the common name. Until that is implemented, or another agreed way of agreeing the common name is finalised then imo nothing can be agreed for the online database. | | | Andy

You already did by letting me know about a bell ringing Isn't there some "English/American dictionairy rule" kinda way in which a Jr. name should be written? Comming from Holland I have now clue if that even exists, but if so, it would be a way of making some sort of standard for cases like this?. | | | Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: 'WOW What a Ride!!! |

Isn't there some "English/American dictionairy rule" kinda way in which a Jr. name should be written? Comming from Holland I have now clue if that even exists, but if so, it would be a way of making some sort of standard for cases like this?. For hundreds of years it has been written with a comma as in 'X, Jr.' Apparently, there is some sort of revisionist movement afoot to drop the comma by certain stylists. Won't happen with me though, since without the comma, the Jr. effectively becomes the last name. But, some people think I'm a Luddite... | | | John

| Posted: | | | | The most common name suffixes are senior and junior, limited chiefly to American usage, which may be written with a capital first letter (Sr.) or in lower case (jr.) following the person’s name (with or without an interceding comma)
So there is no way to make a 'verdict' as yet, as Lopek said it is being looked at by the developer of the program and we should await his decision before pressing ahead with common name decisions in the database. Of course locally anyone can sort them how they wish. | | | |

| Posted: | | | | Decision's have sort of been "Made" already, otherwise there wouldn't be an indifference between profiles in the database. I am only looking for a way to get all the films with Cuba listed when i press on credits for example. What Rifter said makes perfect sense to me and is also what i found looking trough the Random House Unabridged Dictionary -> Junior: Younger (usually designating the younger of two men bearing the same full name, as a son named after his father; often written as Jr. or jr. following the name): May I speak with the junior Mr. Hansen? Mr. Edward Andrew Hansen, Jr. Compare senior (def. 1). Following a rule like that for cases like this will take out the need to "a web-based search facility of the whole database so that the most common name variant can be estabished". A well just my 2 cents on the matter | | | Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: 'WOW What a Ride!!! |

| Posted: | | | | As everyone else has said, we are waiting on a decision from Ken.
However for all profiles the current rules are to take the name from the credits, spelling and punctuation exactly as credited. So if he is credited for a specific film as Gooding, Jr. or Gooding Jr or Gooding Jr. or whatever, that is what should be listed in the profile for that film.
Once a "master name" has been decided on, the as credited data will be linked to the master name. Until then, if you want to change all of your profiles to match, that is up to you, but remember not to contribute any "illegal" changes to the main online db.
I would think this will all be sorted out in a matter of a few months or less and then you will have the linking you desire AND the proper credit for each film. | | | Kevin |

I suppose the way this is set up we will have to go through this with every actor, actress, director, producer, screenwriter, etc., etc., ad nauseam. | | | Dan |

However I have found most US credits will use the comma when crediting a Jr. or Sr. | | | Are you local? | Posted: | | | | Gendji: The old alias system was broken two years ago when it was decided we could no longer use IMDb. And we still have no resolution though we do have a new system, So the simple answer is copy what you see On Screen and once we establish a standard format then we can begin to sort it out, that is what AS CREDITED is all about. Weall want the alias system to work but we have to sort it out. So be patient. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here
